People change jobs for myriad reasons. As mentioned above, sometimes its simply because an offer was too good to refuse and thats not a dig on the existing system. Beechwood is a tough environment for any staff as the parents expect a lot, as is the case with several other local districts. That is exactly why people want to get into the system. As for the baseball staff, I believe the JV & frosh coaches are selected by the varsity coach. So, not unusual for this type of transition. I agree that turnover sucks but, I think its unfair to start the rumor mill like BB seems to want to do.

 

Whomever takes over that program is certainly inheriting three upcoming years loaded with talent.

No rumors started here, so you are way off base. All I have done is stated facts of situations that seem to be aligning very close to each other and have asked questions as to why. I even stated that it all could be pure coincidence which you conveniently failed to mention. I am looking at it from both sides because usually that's what makes up anything newsworthy and the impetus for further discussion which is why we are all on BGP.

I wonder if there may be a coach in place already if the whole staff is gone. Some of these guys were BW alumni. It's hard to find enough people to cover 3 teams and be there every day at 2:30. I would think unless you have a coach with staff in mind, you would let the new coach decide if he wants any of the holdovers.

Now, if they left out of respect to Bob, that's another matter.

Interesting that for baseball all positions are open but for girls basketball, only the head position is available. Does Beechwood only allow boys coaches to pick their staff.?

I don't think they were able to field a freshman or JV squad last year, and if they did, it may have been JV coached by one of the varsity assistants. I know girls basketball was starting to grow in numbers, but not sure if those numbers were high enough to field 3 teams last year.

Yes Chris....from everything I've heard and small conversations I've had with him it appeared he was done unless someone paid him enough to entice him into staying with it. I think he'd make a great young coach...he has a talent for communicating with younger kids.

Relates really well with kids of that age. He has played at almost the highest level you can play and knows the game..

In short, Beechwood was happy with the Coaching part of the Baseball Coach but Beechwood was not happy with the discipline and mentoring (my word) part of the Baseball Coach and when Beechwood came to the Coach about it he resigned but was not forced out.

Definitely a good fit for Coach Gray then... he knows the game and he doesn't go "easy" on kids that need discipline...
