Also, if you take out 'tuition kids' from the football team last year, there is no state champion. No Castleman, Burch.... lucky to go to the playoffs.

Agree to disagree. Being a resident of Fort Mitchell gives you the right to a great education.... Where you live does not guarantee you a spot on your High School Team.

Cord, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing...I don't have a dog in the fight so it matters little to me. I was just curious as to what happened to cause such a spur of the moment move that had a long time coach leave a program. I got the "I had dinner with so and so and he said he was told to play non tuition kids" and so on and so on....it comes down to who you believe and I'll bet we never get the real story. I agree with your statement though, it should guarantee and education not a spot on the team if your open to taking tuition students....my point was that those who are complaining about tuition students playing over Ft Mitchell kids would stop complaining the minute the championships quit coming their way. I would take it as a compliment that kids would want to come to my school for academic and sports accolades but then I'm not a parent of a kid sitting the bench at BW while a kid from Independence or Boone County is playing ahead of mine....I'm sure that is difficult.

Not really a long time coach (at least at Beechwood). I believe he was only there 5 or 6 years at most. I'm not sure it was spur of the moment either. With the talent that has been there (Stringer, Combs, Slusher, and others), it's surprising Beechwood hasn't won a region in the time period he was there. I'd say that's reason enough that this move probably wasn't a surprise.

In my opinion, baseball is the sport where talent least guarantees winning a regional. If that is the measuring stick for baseball coaches, please install the revolving door on the program right now.

Completely agree with the quirkiness of baseball and how talent doesn't always translate to championships. And I wasn't trying to imply that was the reason he's no longer at Beechwood. I also never saw any reason to believe a change was necessary. Just saying, I'm not completely surprised that something like this happened, considering the abundance of talent Beechwood has had while not winning any regional titles. Administrations and the public tend to be not very patient if the perception that the team is under performing exists.

Not sure who applied, but the interviews were slated for yesterday. Due process will probably take another month. My guess is they chose the 17th because it is exactly 1 month before schools starts and I bet they want to have one in place by that date.

I just heard Chris Curley on 1530 am talking about his 8 year career as a professional baseball player. He is finished with baseball and currently selling real estate. Makes you wonder if he might be the next coach.

I am all for tuition kids, but lucky to make playoffs? Yikes. They still would have went undefeated in district and I believe last year they only had 3 starters on offense and 4 defense who lived out of fort Mitchell. But it really doesn't matter.

Please tell me you are not stating "Undefeated in the districts" as an accomplishment....that should happen every year...no disrespect as I went to Ludlow and played FB but Beechwood is clearly an elite program in a very very weak district. When was the last time they were seriously challenged by any of those 3. And when your starting QB, top RB/DB (castleman, usnure of his true position) are 2 of the tuition kids it makes a huge difference...but they would still not be challenged in that district.

No not at all. Just pointing out, as you did, Beechwood would go to the playoffs with or without tuition kids. The district is awful, Beechwoods JV would win it most years. But I am all for tuition kids. As for last year Castleman was a slot and strong safety, good player. The running backs were Justice and Davis, both live in fort Mitchell.

I don't really like wasting time on this, but ... so what on the tuition kids? Every private school in the state has 100% tuition kids (except those that get "scholarships"). So what? As I have said many times on this site, kids in KY can go to any high school they want unless that school's leaders say they don't want them. Kids leave Beechwood and go to private schools too. More power to them if that is what they think is best for them. I need someone to explain to me what the issue is with kids choosing to go to an out of district school.
