Comey is a pretty smart guy who's been doing this law thing a while.

I have a hard time believing that he committed a crime releasing his memos. The man just went through a thorough investigation of HRC and combed through the specifics of handling classsified information.

 

This would have been a HUGE blunder that he nor his counsel would allow to pass.

Just thinking out loud as well.

 

It appeared to me no one on committee had bothered to ask for them. Comey seemed willing to hand them over if/when he got them back.

Yep, there's no joy in Mudville - mighty Comey has struck out.

Struck out? Really!? Because what I just saw on Good Morning America, an interview of Trump's former campaign manager by George Stephanopoulus, you would think that Comey has hung the President with his testimony.

 

No mention of the Russian collusion charge and whether Comey's testimony implicated or exonerated Trump of that.

 

The only thing George was interested in was if Trump lied about denying he pressured Comey to drop the Flynn investigation. They presented it as a he-said/he-said case in which one of them had to be lying and that this would require a special prosecutor to determine if Trump pressured Comey to drop the Flynn investigation.

 

GMA made it sound like Comey has backed Trump into a corner regarding those issues.

 

Again, no mention of anything Comey said regarding whether Trump was involved in collusion with the Russians. When Trump's former campaign manager said that Comey confirmed that Trump had never been under investigation by the FBI, the GMA commentators, Stephanopoulus, Dan Abrams, and John Karl said well he is sure to be now that Comey said he felt pressured by Trump to drop the Flynn investigation. Frustrated with the line of questioning and the insinuation that Trump had been investigated, Trump's former Campaign manager said Trump has not been under investigation as a candidate, once he was elected, or as the sitting President. Is it possible that an investigation has started in the last two weeks that Comey doesn't know about (because he was no longer head of the FBI), I suppose anything is possible.

 

The concluding commentary at the end of the interview was that a special prosecutor would no doubt be appointed to investigate whether Trump obstructed justice by pressuring Comey to drop the Flynn investigation. They made it sound like Comey's testimony was a total disaster for Trump.

I don't think Comey's testimony helped Trump. I don't think Comey's testimony told us anything we didn't already know or suspect. Everything I want to know was things Comey said he couldn't comment on so for me yesterday wasn't what I hoped it would be. It was fascinating television but I am not sure that anything was said yesterday that would cause Trump to be removed from office. Maybe a possible obstruction charge at some point but can you charge the POTUS with obstruction?

Is anyone else disturbed that President Trump's only concern is that he, personally, is not a target of investigation? I am also disturbed that he apparently demanded loyalty, and the proof of that loyalty was to be that Comey publicly state President Trump was not being personally investigated. I think President Trump fancies himself a Godfather. He is definitely an interesting character.

So we now know:

 

- Comey is a leaker. Intentially released memo through a friend to give to the NYT. Supposedly to try and 'force' a special prosecuter. Odd tactics by a law enforcement officer - but not a political officer.

 

- Leakers are often liars. This show because supposed leakers that where quoted in MSM said Comey would deny telling Trump he was under investigation.

 

- NY Times articles based on leaks about Russia connections were false and lies. Comey said their article was completely wrong.

 

So supposed leakers are also at times and maybe often liars. And Comey admitted to being an actual leaker. Media outlets. and expecially the NYT. are willing to publish stories based on incorrect information from supposed 'in the know' leakers.

 

It hard to find the crredibility with Comey, the unnamed leakers or the media. And one can use Comey's own written and spoken words to come this conclusion.

While some in the media and elsewhere are pusing the 'obstruction' label on Trump, Comey provided a direct view into what is most certainly obstruction from one of the political AGs in history.

 

Sometimes one has to wonder how much of this is a smoke screen for an adniinstration and its chosen successor but pushing false narratives claiming the exact thing they themselves did.

I wish one of the R senators would have asked Comey if he has ever leaked anything else in his career at the FBI and if so, what and how many times. I would love for him to answer those questions under oath. I have a hard time believing this was his one and only leak...dude is a train wreck...just based on his own words...

Comey should have resigned or gone public after his meeting with Trump. It comes off now as if he is striking back at Trump for his firing him.
