The vast majority of people who were not already anti-Trump were not swayed in the least by Comey's testimony. If he would have stood up to Trump and resigned, or at least told him that what he wanted him to do was wrong, then his testimony would have had more of an effect, maybe even help to change some GOP politicians thoughts on whether he was trying to obstruct justice or not.

One would think Jeff Sessions or WH counsel would have told Trump not to ask this of Comey.

Someone should have, although with the crew around Trump, it may be expecting too much. I'm not sure if Pres. Trump actually listens to anyone's advice anyway.

Let's be honest...Trump created all this anyway with tweets and his blabbing in his interview with Lester Holt. Comey said himself he decided to release his memos after Trump tweeted about tapes and told the world he fired Comey over the Russia investigation.
