I understand that as well. When you mentioned WWII and people it being prepared for what happens in war my first thought was that we had a defined enemy in WWII. This situation is far more complicated.

Nobody said war was easy or pretty. Under the last admin our military had the toughest ROI and the least amount of ammo in recent memory. U.S. soldiers minimize collateral damage better than anyone.

What country is ISIS affiliated with? Who do we drop bombs on? At least when we dropped atomic bombs on Japan we knew we were at war with Japan. What country or countries should we drop our atomic bombs on to totally get rid of ISIS?

 

This is the conundrum. How do we remain (if we ever were) the world's moral compass today? Do we want to?

Considering it is the US military saying they messed up and killed over 100 civilians I'd imagine they are all pretty innocent.

We need to treat terrorists as a nation that we are at war with. Instead of receiving intelligence of a training camp or a location of a group and waiting for them to commit some crime and letting people come and go we should destroy that camp and kill/capture everyone in that camp like we would if they were a nation we were at war with.
