  • Congratulations to Coach Buddy Biggs and the Royals!   Little known fact.... Coach Biggs has a state championship FOOTBALL ring from his days coaching at Beechwood. In addition to being a good frie

Mike honcho is still trying to help Hinson pull that rabbit out of the hat I think lol

If Campbell wins their district against a tough Scott team then they are going to draw Bracken in the first round of region for a rematch.

Silly Honcho, Trix are for kids!

Honestly, I thought Bracken would win this one. A "history-making" team is what one of their supporters called them, against a Mason County team that seemed to be one of their weakest in the last 25 years.

Seems Dunaway is in stride and doing good things at Mason Co. 10th region championship is going to be hard to predict when there are so many kids playing at a high level.

Just like I said, Jason Hinson only has his reputation because of Brent Bach. Glad my game score prediction was wrong, would've hated to see that 20 game streak come to an end.

Mason--Dunaway 30, Kumler 6, Perkins2, Lofton 14, Fox 14, Boyd 5. (73)

BRacken--Crawford 45 (22 in fourth QTR), Jones 4, Engus 5, Tad Fisher 6, Appelman 3, Rigg 3, Deaton 2. (68)

Wow I'm shocked with this outcome I figured a senior dominated team would be able to pull this one out against a weak Mason County team.

I wouldn't say weak. Average and playing well at the right time. I don't think they will be an easy out for anyone. Fox and Lofton have both stepped up lately. I am not saying they will win the 10th, still probably behind Campbell, Paris, GRC, and Scott, but I'd bet not one of them would take the Royals lightly, especially at the Fieldhouse.

If the T doesn't get called. Or if Crawford's 3 goes in to tie at end... it's a different story. Silly to say this.

Mason is underrated. They had a rough year but they're a good squad. Don't discount Hinson.

Mason was up 70 to 60 with :49 seconds and started playing really stupid. Mason fouled on a missed FT, turnover, turnover and and missed like five out of six FT's. BRacken had the ball down three and Crawford shot a long three rehab was short. Good game but Mason had them most of the second half.

IF my aunt had male genitalia she'd be my uncle.

In the prediction thread, several people said Mason had nobody to guard Jones and Engus. They could not have watched Mason lately. Dalton changes thinks in the middle and Fox I a a football player who you can't move. Crawford can't be guarded but Mason let him drive right to the rim in the fourth.

Great atmosphere at The Fieldhouse tonight. Bracken side was packed, Mason side close. 1,000+ would have been turned away at The Igloo tonight.

And the game was exciting as well. Mason up 14-12 after 1 and 31-28 at half. I think Bracken's biggest lead was 26-20. Once Mason extended the lead in the second half it became clear that it would be all Crawford, all the time and he didn't disappoint.

Was the technical deserved? By the letter of the law; yes. Could the official turned the other cheek? Possibly. No denying that it was huge.

Mason had what looked like an insurmountable (at least 10) lead with less than a minute left, largely on the strength of Dunaway's shooting at the line. Then things got interesting. A silly foul under Mason's basket, two unforced turnovers, some missed charity tosses; and Bracken had a chance to tie it with a Crawford triple. Two defenders in his face forced the miss, and Kumler's freebies iced it.

Kudos to Tyrion Fox and Jaylen Lofton for keeping the Royals in it in the first half before Dunaway took over late; both had success driving and scoring in close or from the line against Bracken's bigs. Holding Jones to 4 points was big as well, coming off the big night against St. Patrick. In a game this close, though, everybody played key roles. Staying out of foul trouble allowed Coach Biggs to stick to his starting 5 and 2 off the bench when a starter got gassed. Hard-fought, entertaining game to watch from ol' pap's customary endzone front-row spot.

Like many others, I really thought that this was Bracken's best chance to capture their first district title in the 21st century, but it was not to be. I've got a lot of friends over there and I feel for them.

Congrats to the Royals on yet another district title (but that may not mean a lot in terms of the regional draw), and also to the Polar Bears for leaving it all on the floor.
