Outstanding effort from Austin Crawford tonight!

My Polar Bears beat themselves tonight. Give credit to Mason the my played a good game.

 

Way too many missed shots at point blank range. Had several offensive rebound where the putbacks didn't fall. Free throw shooting was atrocious overall. Don't have the numbers in front of me but I would say around 30% from the field and 60% from the line. The three ball kept it close in the first half shooting 5-9. But maybe made 1or 2 in the second half. Crawford got his but the support cast wasn't there tonight. Foul trouble plagued Jones and Engnes in the second half.

 

Refs let them play for the most part in the first half. If I remember correctly Bracken had 8 team fouls to Mason 3 in the first 16 min butbin the second half both teams were in the DB.

 

Bracken showed me a lot of fight in the closing minutes albeit in a losing effort. Could have packed it in down 10 but fought all the way back with a chance to tie it but it wasn't meant to be. I'm still proud of my team and look forward to watching them next week in the region.

 

Yeah it's a hard pill to swallow and it's disappointing but that's sports. Win some and lose some. Just have to refocus now on next week. The road will be tougher now but not impossible. If memory serves a district runner up was the 10ths representative in last years state tournament. Just have to set goals and work your butts off to obtain them.

 

As long as you leave it all out there on the floor (like tonight) whatever happens happens. At least you can't say that you didn't give it your best shot.

 

Congrats to Mason Co on another district Title and best of luck to my neighbors to the east next week.

Actually GRC is going to be a tough out in the region. I like what their coach has been doing. IMHO they are not in the D-League.

The pushback on that is that it wasn't the first or the last moment of taunting in this game. Silly time to enforce it.

 

Agree with you there! Refs got to allow these kids to get amped up on big plays! The referee that called it has the reputation of impacting big games!

Honestly, I thought Bracken would win this one. A "history-making" team is what one of their supporters called them, against a Mason County team that seemed to be one of their weakest in the last 25 years.

 

A lot of the BC Faithful won't admit this, but this team has underachieved for years now. They were the group that was going to lead BC to the state tournament. Well... they didn't add one banner to the rich Polar Bear tradition!

 

Tonight Crawford was a MAN! He got absolutely no help from anyone else on the team! Jones and Engnes were nonexistent! Needed help from those two to win this game!

 

Also, was BC's M2M half court defense that bad? Lofton, Dunnaway, and Fox got in the lane consistently off the dribble

I don't understand this at all. His team had a chance to win and had good looks at the basket most of the night.

It is interesting that people are so big on Hinson. Coach Brian Kirk took a Brent Bachless Augusta team to the 10th region finals in his first year. That is extremely hard to do. They played 7 games against the 38th district and went 6 and 1. I'm sorry to say but when the Bracken County faithful puts so much input in to a senior dominant team and they only win 16 games!! That is a bit of a disappointmen.

Been saying it all along , rode Bach and now Crawford this far. A great coach, with the best player on the floor should win this game 10/10 times. Hats off to the royals and coach Biggs who has proven to be one of the best postseason coaches in the 10th. On to the next one.

Fouls on the first half was 7 to 5. Overall fouls were BC 23 MC16. Las 1:30, Bracken fouled pretty much every possession. Mason outscored BC by 10 at the foul line.

Just disappointed in tonight. I felt like we were playing 2 on 8 most of the night and seems like every call went Masons way. I know you're not supposed to blame the refs but I was not a fan of that call on Crawford for the technical.

 

On the other hand, I give tons of credit to Masons coaches and kids. They came into this game upset minded and was able to overcome a barrage of points by Crawford in order to get the win.

 

Seems like Coach Hinson went with his tried and true method of set back and let the best player on the court win the game and Biggs went with the we will give Crawford his and not let anybody else beat us approach. I thought Appleman played well when he was in the game and looked good from 3.

 

The old honcho is at a loss for words but it's nothing a big region win next week can't fix. As always I'll support the Bears and Coach Hinson win or lose.

 

Appleman hit a 3 early and then came out. Was he because he couldn't defend MC players M2M? That would make sense but no one stopped MC from getting into the paint

If you're a Bracken County fan this is a tough pill to swallow. Brady Jones and Cooper may have played the worst game in their career and that's all credit to Mason's bigs. Austin Crawford had 45 tonight but the most heart-breaking part of the game was him missing the game tying 3 that would have sent it into over-time. Also sad to see that this great group of kids and talent will never get to enjoy the experience the joy of cutting down the nets in their careers. However the still have one more shot at an unlikely, but still possible regional championship (trying to stay positive).

 

On the technical note yes it affected the game but it's not what lost Bracken the game. Even though Mason County could have got T for some stuff. But the refs let them play tonight and I think that worked to Bracken's disadvantage. It made the game move faster which is Mason County's style. And it's easier to speed a game up than it is to slow it down.

 

On the note of Hinson losing this game doesn't make him a bad coach. The players missed A LOT of inside shots tonight. I've said all along that Buddy Biggs is a great coach and so is Hinson. Bracken lost by 5 just like they did last year, only this time it was at the Fieldhouse which showed no mercy on the Polar Bears tonight.

 

I'll look forward to the region draw Saturday and in hope of a winnable game in the region to help ease the pain of the loss. And just maybe, the district runner-up can make it to the regional finals.
