I also have my online go-to's (more specifically 3WK.com is my fav), yet there is something nice about having a local music community feel where DJ's would discuss upcoming shows in smaller clubs, and highlight local rising artists, keep listeners informed of the Midpoint Music Fest, and the Bunbury Fest, and keep the non-coorperate music discussion alive for those who enjoy knowing about artists with integrity who've not yet sold their souls to big-label clowns Often touring independent bands will bypass Cincinnati, and hit Columbus and Louisville instead, but stations like WNKU or the MOTR club would be the saving grace behind attracting them to play here. WNKU would also regularly attract touring bands to stop by their studios for in-studio performances. Having a college rock station has a big impact on keeping our city on the map for touring artists. I fear that it will struggle more with the station gone. With guys like Dan McCabe of MOTR and the Woodword Theatre being a Cincinnati mainstay we thankfully will continue to have a pulse and a life line to the outside world, but a radio station is monumental. One thing that I believe could happen as a result of this would be an opportunity for some industrious local music lovers to launch their own Cincy centric website. For example already established sites like CincyMusic.com could be prompted to step up their game to not only report and advertise the music scene, but to further it by regularly running a playlist and perhaps encouraging online discussion. I can also see record shops like Shake-it Records seeing this as an opportunity for them to perhaps be frontrunners of such a movement. Music lovers will find a way, but there's just something sad about seeing a quality long standing station link WNKU die, and I must admit enough old-schoolness in me that likes to crank up the jams in my car and feel like I've got a personal DJ to guide me in what sounds are fresh, and a centralized spot to share new music with like minded friends. Fair enough. Admittedly, I'm not familiar with that station, so I wasn't aware of the impact they had on attracting live music in the area. That is certainly something that would be a shame to miss out on.

That is certainly something that would be a shame to miss out on. You certainly bring up a good point, and it's going to be interesting to see what will spawn locally because of. This is bound to open doors and create a shift that if handled right has the potential to keep things vibrant and interesting.
February 16, 20179 yr For those who had never heard of or listened to this station, man, did you miss out! RIP WNKU and thanks for music! NKU gets labeled sometimes a bland school to attend. I felt WNKU was a nice piece of counter culture that added to the University. Agreed, thanks for the music and it will be missed!
February 16, 20179 yr Funny. I used the computers and drank the coffee in the library lobby on a consistent basis but never walked through the doors to the actual library part. I was there from 2002-2010 and left with two degrees. I was only on campus at night so thats the main reason why. Go to class and leave, didnt really do anything else on campus.

February 17, 20179 yr Apparently the university was also in early talks with Louisville's WFPK (an excellent station, in my opinion) about selling WNKU to WFPK. The sale to Bible Broadcast was a blindside to WFPK. Now there is apparently some kind of talk on behalf of the university to re-visit selling the station to WFPK. February 18, 20179 yr WNKU is 89.7 FM...has been a pre set on my dial for 20 + years. I find it hard to believe the current culture hasn't wrapped itself around this great vehicle of diverse music in the region and the potential sale of wnku is even a possibility. If you want something to protest folks...get behind this station! It will be a sad day for music in the midwest if and when WNKU disappears!
