It was a true grassroots radio station and it was always that way that I was aware. I know that when I was at NKU, I got to know the folks at WNKU pretty well. There weren't many students around. There was a low-power student-run station that was on periodically but didn't have the coverage area that WNKU had. Those folks there were professional radio people running the main M-F shifts. It deviated some on the weekends with volunteer staff and certain specialty programs. It was also an NPR station during the mornings and during evening drive time, carrying the national news. They picked up several other national public radio programs, including Car Talk, Prairie Home Companion, etc. I suspect some of that changed over time, but I still listened on occasion online and found many familiar programs in recent years.

It was a true grassroots radio station and it was always that way that I was aware. They didn't have student-in-training broadcasters. The DJ's were all adult paid professionals. I can't say for certain about all of the behind the scenes operations, but it didn't run like WVXU (Xavier) did years ago when from Midnight to 5:00 a.m. they had a program called Nightwaves that was run by student DJ's.
February 15, 20179 yr It's amazing we have so many that attended NKU and had no idea. I knew there was a station, I always see their top 10 in City Beat but couldn't tell you the number on the dial. I feel for those who will miss their music, that sucks, but so does losing $4 million over the course of the past few years.
February 15, 20179 yr I knew of the station for many, many, many years........but what they were/are playing is not "my cup of tea".

A co-worker mentioned it shut down and I ignorantly said, "probably because know one listened to it". This thread and my FB feed proved me wrong.
