District Seeding Process

Featured Replies

So the blind draw is a way to reward teams with a regional appearance for underachievement, while ignoring a better teams achievements.

Got it. :thumb:

If that's how you want to look at it, that's fine. We look at it as equal opportunity :)

Mason voted to draw for the longest time, it's now that Bracken Co. has gotten better than them that they want to seed.

A team gets to the regional tournament by the luck of the draw, rather than by their accomplishments in district play, if that makes a team feel good about being there.

Nothing left to be said........

I'm out

Peace out dd734! Have a good day!

The opinion on blind draw/seeding is school specific. Blind draw gives the smaller schools a better chance to experience playing in the regional tournament. For example: 39th District - Mason Co. wants to seed now (a few years ago they voted to draw because they didn't care who they played - HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN?) Augusta/St. Pat's best chance to go to the region is to draw each other on a normal annual basis. Augusta's had good teams in the past few years, but if you look at it from a long term basis, their best chance is to draw.

Smaller schools shouldn't be given anything as you stated above highlighted in BOLD, they should have to earn it like everyone else does.

You don't reward mediocrity in sports....period!

You are provided an equal opportunity if you win your games against district opponents.

I would seed every District based on games played. I would prefer just one game against other District foes but if they vote to play two I would be okay with it.

However I would deem that every District winner gets the first game of the Regional on their Home floor. After that the four winners go to wherever the Region is hosted.

Trophy stealing as well. Makes me cringe when I'm at an event and a team is called "runner up" when they're truly not runner up.

Yeah the experience of back to back 60-70 point beat downs or in baseball being outscored 40-0 in back to back games, with that team only winning 1 game all year. Yes, what a pleasurable experience.

So, what side of the argument are you making? I'm really not sure reading this if you think a blind draw is good or bad.

There are some 3 team Districts in the state, blind draw automatically moves what could be by far the worst to the region if they draw the bye.

Year in and year out Wayne Co and Southwestern have had teams capable of making the sweet 16. McCreary the third team in that district, historically hasn't had as strong of a team. Why should one of the top teams in the region be eliminated in the first round because of a blind draw while one of the worst teams gets a free pass to district finals and on to the regionals.

Blind Draw is the Participation Trophy Mentality of District Seedings...just the way I see it.

Now if only one team moved on from the district, I would have much less of an issue with blind draws.

The KHSAA has to get complete control over the post season, it is way to important to the athletes, and that is the main objective. Making everyone do the same thing has to happen, just not fair other wise. Everyone has great arguments on this thread. Whatever the KHSAA decides should impact all the schools in the state in the same way. You can not have 5-10 different district plans in place across the state if they are all playing for one championship, and that is being lenient, there may be more than that.

I have always been a big fan of playing twice, it is head to head competition, if a school wishes not to play twice because of their size, example KSD does that in the 12th region, then they are the #4/#5 seed.

Tie breaker is points allowed inside your district teams

1. I know that a great team might want to play tougher competition some years and avoid bad schools in their district BUT, you are not going to be great every year

2. I know that the bad schools don't want a 40 point beat down 6 times but you won't be bad every year

3. District travel, 3 more home games, rivalry's, money at gate to benefit athletes on athletic program, all beneficial

Did you know that in Western part of the state there are teams that get to go to the region without ever playing a district tournament game?

In the 8th region we have one district out of the 4 that play each other twice..the other 3 are so complicated that you would have to a major in finance to figure them out.

Then this happens, you get to the regional draw, there is multiple awful teams in the regional tourney, a team draws them and gets to coast into semi's. In the same bracket a winner that is a mediocre district and an awful loser from another district, draw each other, then that team gets another cake walk into the regional final. Hypothetically speaking here, they have a distinct advantage in the regional final, especially since they are back to back nights.

KHSAA should be after the 8 best teams making the regional's and with all of these districts doing there own thing that just doesn't happen, making it an unfair playing field, and it is POST SEASON, no one should have distinct advantage.

In the 6th/7th region district winners host first game of regional if I am not mistaken and the final 4 go somewhere else. Just more regions that do things completely different than most.

Five team districts in Louisville region would be tough to play each other twice if you want to play everyone in the region. Would limit your scheduling playing 8 district games.

Or you could only play (1) Christmas tourney, that would mean (10) games in district play, and 20 games left to play how you wish. If you did 3 at Christmas , you would still have 17 games left vs. Louisville teams.. Why would you have to play everyone in your region anyway?

Well said @8th Region Warrior like I said earlier in this thread they (KHSAA) control every aspect of football and teams may have to play 4 to 5 games of their football season on district games. I just don't understand why they are afraid to make the same requirements for basketball.

Beacause people are afraid it will eventually lead to classification, which the KHSAA is terrified of.
