District Seeding Process

Featured Replies

That is exactly what they are afraid of, but since they are the governing body they make that call as well. We have the All A tourney and that is sufficient enough. Make it fair for all involved should be the goal.

Just wanted to get other people's ideas and share mine on this topic. I think every district should seed and it should be done the following way:

1) Every team has to play each district team twice (home/away) in the regular season. This will create a situation where teams will have to prove they are the one seed but also create more inner-district rivalries.

2) Tie breakers should be as follows (get rid of these coin tosses):

  • Head to Head
  • Point differential in district seeded games
  • Away district seeded games point differential
  • Home district seeded games point differential
  • Region record
  • Region away record

Open to other suggestions

I have said for years that I think it's ridiculous district teams don't play each other twice a year, home and away. Heck, I played ball for a high school that belonged to a 9 team conference...and we played EVERY team twice every year.

Someone mentioned that leads to some blowouts where you have some really strong teams playing really weak teams in district more than once. My reply? Weak teams either get better or drop out of the district.

I personally think districts should be done away with, combine districts into 7-9 team conferences (or call them districts if you want), and play each other twice. THEN winning your "district" really means something.

Beacause people are afraid it will eventually lead to classification, which the KHSAA is terrified of.

I just do t see how making all districts seed would lead to a class system.

You guys are funny. All this clamering that Districts should be seeded when your state tournament is a blind draw. lol.

I would prefer to do away with district before agreeing to a blind draw.

Completely different IMO. All regional winners have earned their right to State.

Not really, same thing I say about the state wrestling tournament. If you are going to random draw the state brackets, it should be random draw for the whole tournament.

Will have to disagree there. Like i said, I would prefer to do away with district period and put more emphasis on the regular season. Especially over a blind draw in which you're in no control and on any given year could have two of the top 2-4 teams in region in the same district playing each other because of it.

Becauss there is no way to really seed the sweet 16. Everyone can for districts to seed based on regular season district games.

Thats bull, I offered two solutions in the past. It is a choice not too because the KHSAA is lazy.

So, what side of the argument are you making? I'm really not sure reading this if you think a blind draw is good or bad.

HA definitely against the draw 100%. My post is definitely sarcastic.

Why is there not a way to seed? Other states do it for other sports using a multitude of ways.

Point differential often makes coaches run up the score, when they otherwise would not. Everything else looks good.

The district has to vote on rules to keep that from happening. In the 56th district point differential only counts up to 15 points. If each team wins by 15 points or more in their two district games during the season then a coin toss is used to break the tie. But I'm not aware of that occuring since seeding was voted into use 37 years ago.

There's no logical way to seed the state tournament due to most of the teams who end up in the tournament not playing one another during the season. And the newspaper rankings are too controversial to use.

But to seed the districts is no problem at all. Our district has done it for nearly 4 decades with no issues whatsoever.
