February 10, 20179 yr The guy is brilliant but has no understanding of reality in relation to human behavior. Logical yes, practical, no. As was stated, adults can make their decisions and live with the consequences, children no. No one talks about a hybrid where all Children are covered with health care until XXX age. We don;'t even see that movement. That would be a start, then we can talk Friedman's model. Otherwise, he's just blew fantasy economic smoke up our ---. So no one is to be held accountable for their decisions? You then believe government should step in and dictate every step of a person's life because they are not capable of making responsible life decisions? At some point individuals must be held accountable for their actions/ decisions.

I said adults can make decisions and live with the consequences with his model, no problem in most cases. Children a totally different story. I will never support punishing or hurting children for what their parents refuse to do or their poor decisions. Here is the problem I see. i offered what I thought was movement to some compromise and that was around ALL children getting free healthcare not adults to start a discussion to see if people would move off of their thoughts. Doesn't seem to happen. thus we are where we are. All or nothing.
February 10, 20179 yr My mind is wide open on ways to better address our healthcare and our post secondary education programs. The way we do it now is killing our middle class: The registered poor get free help and free education although many are not prepared for it. The rich don't need help. The ones in the middle pay the highest proportional taxes (of disposable income) and can afford the least of either...or become debt-burdened with education. It is too bad, we can't agree on our goals and focus on them and deal with the issues without all the other "election" agendas clouding the issues.

They could voucher to the policy so that actual monies never go to the family but to the insurance provider directly. There is still the question of - if the parents are this irresponsible would they use insurance and do the right things - even if 100% paid for? Taking kids to doctors and dentists for proactive checkups, etc. is time eater. Even its 'there' some may still just not do it. Insurance and actual care are different.

February 10, 20179 yr So if the government gives you $3000 to buy healthcare and you don't buy it, you believe there should be another safeguard? At what point do we learn that handouts don't motivate people to become productive citizens? Why pass it through hands and play a game? Just have healthcare for all.

By getting your high school diploma and then going to vocational school or college you will make what is called a living wage. For those that truly cannot do that, that is when help should come.

If money is given, it should be in the form of a card where it can only be used at a medical facility.

I have spent many hours reading and listening to Milton Friedman's words and I cannot think of anybody who understood human behavior better than Friedman. Friedman easily makes my top 5 of American thinkers of the 20th century. Friedman was a fearless debater, yet he always seemed to be enjoying himself. I have watched him take on entire panels of liberal economists and never saw him lose a debate.
February 11, 20179 yr I am not surprised you are a fan. His thoughts at times come through your posts. He was brilliant, as are other economist. Debates are always won by the people we agree with. Glad to hear he was undefeated in your mind. His strength was not understanding human behavior, but we will disagree.
