February 9, 20179 yr I believe those programs that result in a devaluation of education in the home environment are the root of much of our educational failures. Our high achievers continue to highly achieve, but there can be more in this group. For those on the bottom, the gap grows. The gap is pronounced at the beginning of a school year and lessens during the year. What does that tell one? It tells me teachers have to overcome deficiencies in the students home. Let's skip for now, those things that cause or enable a parent to maintain a home where education is valued. How do we benefit these at-risk kids? Earlier intervention. More funding for classes and transportation is needed for pre-K classes, and they need to be mandatory as there are too many parents of these at-risk kids that don't or can't get them to present available opportunities. If we invest the money on the front in, the likely result is that we will spending less later for special needs, especially behavioral and learning deficiencies. I could care less which party fixes this.
February 10, 20179 yr Corresponds with Republicans taking control of the legislatures and governorships of a number of states previously controlled by Democrats. Interesting... And from what I've seen on the federal and our (KY) state level, it ain't getting any better anytime soon.

February 10, 20179 yr It's Bush's fault. Was that stated tongue in cheek, or not? Reason I ask is, my understanding from every single public school teacher I know is that the responsibilities and requirements of being an educator were made significantly more difficult by NCLB, which was enacted in 2001 by Bush and wasn't until just over a year ago in late 2015 that NCLB was able to be broken apart by the ESSA.
February 10, 20179 yr This is getting out of hand. I'm a republican, I disagreed with almost everything Obama did as President. But posts like this are just spiteful and pointless. If you're not helping the problem, you're hurting it.

If you're not helping the problem, you're hurting it. This times a million. The vast majority of the conservatives I've seen posting about politics to social media since the election are the among the most ungracious and malevolent "winners" I've ever experienced in my life in any regard. I'm talking Martin Shkreli-style. The reverse of that is what is happening on the liberal side of things, where the liberal presence on social media is so bitter and vitriolic I can hardly stand it either. They've all but forgotten the disingenuous "we need to put aside our differences and work together to better the country" branding that the left preached to the right following the Obama elections in '08 and '12...and they've turned into the loud and whiney sore losers, posting weblinks to whatever bottom-of-the-internet-barrel unverified info/conspiracy theory internet article they can find to prove the world is going to end because of Trump. John McEnroe, Cristiano Ronaldo, and my obnoxious rightwing uncle-who-won't-quit-posting-links-to-6-year-old-articles-about-Obama-led-gun-grabs-and-asking-to-see-Obama's-REAL-birth-certificate don't hold a candle to today's social media liberals. It was a little of both to be honest. It was directed at Bush for a program that was really about as effective as the war on drugs. It was directed at Obama because he did nothing worthwhile either, but spent 8 years blaming Bush and fixing nothing.
February 10, 20179 yr Nothing to do with Obama on this one, all kids do is test anymore, they dont learn anything in schools because its all about testing. Every other week my wifes school is testing for something.
