This is why I gave the opinion I did in the Political forum around parents needing more control over theirs kids and the government needs less. It is insane to me that parent can get arrested for this and have her kids taken away.

Don't know about New York, but you can't remove children in Kentucky without a court order.

From the article, it doesn't sound like that's what happened. It sounds like the mom was homeschooling her kids and the documentation was either not properly submitted by the mom or was not properly archived by the school district. Led to CPS getting a report that the kids weren't in school.

You are correct in everything you said I just read it as if there was a court order due to the schools failure on paperwork.

 

This is just insane story to me that a mom can lose her kids for this.

So...kids don't show up for school for a week or so, and school contacts CPS instead of the parent? I know there's only so much you can expect a school to do...but, this just seems a little overboard.

The certain lawsuits should be fun to follow.

Wouldn't the CPS have to do a little investigation before they could take the kids away? I'll be waiting for Paul Harvey on this one.

I definitely think there is a lot more to this story than just the one article in the link. Hope we can get more details in the future.

Ok, without opening the link, here goes;

 

One cannot just take their kids out of school and claim "homeschooling". Regardless of your views pro or con on homeschooling, there is a process the parents have to go through and certain qualifications attained to ensure the children's learning needs are actually being met (KY ranks fairly low on this point when compared to other states from what I can gather). So, what qualifications does the mother have to homeschool her children (assuming she was the one actually doing it which seems to be the case)?

 

I get that some parents don't want their children in public schools and either can't afford a private school or maybe don't want that either, so they choose to homeschool their kids. That's perfectly fine. However, the personal, anecdotal experience I have had dealing with homeschool children leaves me with the notion that, on average homeschooling, at least here in KY, might be lacking in it's effectiveness.

Has to be... Not a lose your kids offense. If she had proof they were being taught at home and it's just a paperwork issue taking her kids and charging her is government overeach at it's worst.
