Patterson was a 3A school in Louisiana, Booker T. Washington is a 6A School in Oklahoma.

 

He definitely has big shoes to fill, but he also has an excellent core of talent he is inheriting.

I think this is a great hire for Central. It was actually posted to Centrals website on 1/24/17 but I don't believe people saw the post.

Totally agree Jake! For me, it would be tough coming into a school where the coach you are replacing (and a legend at that) is right down the hall that you have not repore with. Not that Coach Scroggins would ever be detrimental towards the new coach, but an unknown relationship. Interesting move...

Curious... Why was Dantzler looking for a job in Louisville? Does he have some connection to the city?

I assume no relation to Damion Dantzler, who played basketball at UofL in the 90s. He was a Chicago guy I think.

That has me curious as well. When people seem to be bolting out of the JCPS coaching system at a pretty alarming rate, is Central's winning tradition enough of a draw to bring a coach from out of town? Is the school able to offer any additional compensation beyond the normal coaching stipend? Can booster organizations chip in?

I asked this question twice and never really got a good answer from him. In the story he sort of hinted that he's more focused as a coach when he's away from home in Louisiana. But why he chose Louisville, I'm not real sure. I do know that Central wasn't the only job in the city he pursued.

I think this is interesting (but good) hire. The interesting part will be how long he stays. He did one year at Patterson (inherited a 9-3 team and went 3-7), did 4 years at BTW(Tulsa) and went 33-12 (per maxpreps). He did improve every year at BTW went 6-5, 7-4, 10-2 and 10-1 over the 4 years.

 

It will be interesting how the players adjust to new leadership after having play for the Legend Coach Scroggins.
