Sweet 16 Draw

I was wondering why the KHSAA started doing that,......"to maximize first round attendance".

They must have felt they got positive results last year if they're doing it again.

They've done it for several years with baseball. They started it in basketball a couple of years ago (maybe it was last year). I have no idea if "maximizing first round attendance" is the stated reason, but it is the reason.

While I expect them to lose in the quarters, the 14th has a legit shot at making their first State Semifinal appearance in over 30 years.

I believe it will be Perry Central from the 14th but I also thought that last year, then Buckhorn had other ideas. Perry hasn't won the region in quite a while. They seem to find ways to lose games they should win. About 6 years ago in the championship game they were leading Knott Central by 10 points with two minutes left in the game and still lost.

Perry has the two bigs they picked up after Christmas and it's made them stronger, no doubt. I think they beat the team expected to come out of the 15th, Johnson Central, earlier before the two kids joined the team. If they get by that round they more than likely will face either Campbell County or Paris. That should be a good game. Perry is on a roll as the tournaments approach, as their recent overtime loss at Lexington Catholic shows. Though they lost that game it was on the road and to a team that has a shot at winning the strong 11th region.

It is logical reasoning if it works, and evidently they feel that it does. Anything that helps attendance is good.

Agree. Perry Central is really solid this year, and was very impressive against Lexington Catholic. I definitely expect them to make the Quarterfinals.

Once they get there, I think they would be underdogs to Paris, Campbell Co, South Laurel. Maybe Corbin or Knox Central could be there opposite them.

10th is wide open could see some upsets in this region. I think Corbin will come out of the 13th.

IF Paris or Campbell make it out, i think they could make a semifinal run. With that being said, my 10th prediction would have to be Paris, winning All-A state boosted their confidence x10. Watch out for the hounds come March.:sssh:

Having seen both play if Perry Central did play Paris I don't know that you would call Perry Central an underdog. It would be a game with completly contrasting styles. Either style could lead to a blowout for one or the other or be a really really good game.

Perry Central has the size advantage. Paris has the speed/quickness advantage. It would definitely be an interesting game.

Perry Central is the top ranked 14th region team but not a shoe-in to win it. Certainly not like the Knott Central teams were with Justice. The Commodores play Knott tonight in Hazard. I've heard that Knott, although with a young team, has been stepping their game up lately. And Letcher Central or Cordia can't be overlooked.

Barring any upsets, Region 2 champs will most likely have to defeat Fern Creek, then Trinity, then Cov Cath, then Bowling Green. That may be the toughest route to a state title I've seen in a while. Same thing for Fern Creek as well, Hoptown, Trinity, Cov Cath, and BG.

I am obviously rooting for West Ky teams, but this really doesn't produce a positive outlook.
