12th Region Basketball

 

January is coming to an end and there are only a few more weeks of regular season basketball before the playoffs begin. The districts are starting to take shape and you can begin to see how the district tournaments will seed. The next few weeks’ teams will be fine tuning their game getting ready for their playoff runs. Buckle up as we race to the finish because February means the end is getting near. Here are this week’s 12th region rankings and review.

 

 

 

1) Pulaski County (18-4) – The Maroons rolled through the competition last week as they beat Russell County 77-42, beat Rockcastle County 74-67, and beat Butler 82-67 in the Clem Haskins Classic at Taylor County. In the win over Russell County, Steven Fitzgerald had 27 points and 7 rebounds to lead Pulaski. Fitzgerald had another big game as he was named outstanding player of the game in the Clem Haskins Classic with 31 points and 7 rebounds in the win over Butler. This week the Maroons will travel to Mercer County, host cross town rival Somerset, and they play Monroe County in the Robbie Davis Classic in Clinton County. To finish off the week the Maroons once again play Rockcastle County to determine the top seed in the 47th District.

 

2) Southwestern (20-2) – The Warriors continue to put up impressive stats this season as they are the highest scoring team in the state to date averaging 82.1 points per game. Peyton Gover is currently in the top five scorers in the state averaging 29.5 points per game. This past week the Warriors picked up a few more high scoring wins as they beat West Jessamine 91-78 and beat Wayne County 88-67. This week the Warriors will travel to Lincoln County for a top 5 match-up in the 12th Region. They will also host Casey County before playing Scott County in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette.

 

3) Lincoln County (16-7) – Last week the Patriots won both games they played as they beat McCreary Central 76-38 and beat rival Boyle County 59-56. In the win over McCreary Central, Noah Young score 24 points and Devin Alcorn added 14 points. To start this week, the Patriots host the high octane offense of Southwestern. They then go to Garrard County before coming back home to play Anderson County.

 

4) Mercer County (17-5) – Last week the Titans lost to Boyle County 76-78, beat Burgin 91-50, and beat East Jessamine 91-50. In the loss to Boyle County, Trevon Faulkner scored an amazing 40 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. In the win over Burgin, Dean Garrett led the way with 18 points. Looking at the state leaders, Trevon Faulkner sits at #4 of the top rebounders in the state averaging 12.3 boards per game. This week the Titans play two games at home as they host Pulaski County and Grant County.

5) Boyle County (12-10) – Last week the Rebels got a big win as they beat Mercer County 78-76. Jason Alexander led the way for Boyle County in the win scoring 19 points while shooting 75% from the field. The Rebels then lost to district rival Lincoln County 56-59 later in the week. Alexander once again led Boyle in scoring with 19 points. This week the Rebels host West Jessamine before taking on crosstown rival Danville in 45th District play.

 

6) Rockcastle County (13-9) – The Rockets lost both games they played last week as they lost to Madison Southern 68-75 and lost to district rival Pulaski County 67-74. John Cornelius led the way in both games scoring 19 points in each game. This week the Rockets travel to McCreary Central before hosting Danville. They will then make up a District 47th game versus Pulaski County to end the week.

 

7) West Jessamine (9-13) – Last week the Colts lost in 12th Region play to Southwestern 78-91. They turned it around later in the week as they beat a good Madison Southern team 72-69 to end their losing streak. Isaiah Okesson scored 30 points in the loss to Southwestern. Okesson and Kendall Peters scored 20 points apiece in the win over Madison Southern. This week the Colts are on the road as they travel to Boyle County, East Jessamine, and to Clinton County to face North Hardin in the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic.

 

8) Wayne County (10-13) – The Cardinals lost both games they played last week. They lost to Knox Central 76-91 and lost to Southwestern 67-88. In the loss to Knox Central Jakson Baker scored 30 points and Stetson Simpson added 29 points. Baker was once again leading scorer for the Cardinals in their loss to Southwestern. He scored 18 points. This week the Cardinals look to get back to winning as they host Clay County then travel to 48th District foe McCreary Central.

 

9) Casey County (7-16) – The Rebels only played one game last week and they beat Russell County 65-52. This week the Rebels are on the road as they travel to Southwestern and Woodford County.

 

10) Danville (7-13) – This past week the Admirals lost to Walton Verona 46-33 in the first round of the Class A State Tournament. This week the Admirals play Garrard County and Boyle County in 45th District competition. They then travel to Rockcastle County to finish the week.

 

11) East Jessamine (8-16) – The Jaguars played two games last week losing to Grant County 68-69 in overtime and lost to Mercer County 50-91. This week East Jessamine only plays one game but it is a big one versus crosstown rival West Jessamine.

 

12) McCreary Central (13-8) – The Raiders split a pair of games last week as they lost to Lincoln County 38-76 but beat Lynn Camp 74-49. This week the Raiders play at home as they host Rockcastle County and rival Wayne County.

 

13) Somerset (9-12) – The Briar Jumpers only played one game last week and they beat Barbourville 56-51. This week the Jumpers are on the road as they travel to Madison Southern then close out district play as they go across town to rival Pulaski County.

 

14) Garrard County (4-17) – The Golden Lions split a pair of games last week losing to George Rogers Clark 52-64 but they beat Model 68-41. This week Garrard County hosts Danville and Lincoln County before traveling to Menifee County.

 

15) Burgin (10-11) – Last week the Bulldogs won three out of four games beating Portland Christian 55-51, losing to Mercer County 50-91, beat Pairist School 73-29, and beat Middlesboro 75-65. This week Burgin stays at home as they host Riverside Christian and J Frank White Academy, TN.

 

16) Kentucky School f/t Deaf (2-11) – Last week the Colonels lost both games they played. They lost to Florida School f/t Deaf 35-62 and lost to Georgia School f/t Deaf 26-43. This week they travel to play St. Francis for their only game of the week.
