January 15, 20179 yr Getting real tired of all these guys doing this with the Sr. stuff on their jerseys for no real reason. If I were sports czar, I would pass a rule that nobody gets to use Sr. unless Jr. has done something notable in their life beyond be born or get a trophy in AAU/Travel/Competitve. In most all cases, if you are still playing in the league, Jr. ain't done a damned thing yet of note. So let's just end this right now. I shall call it the Ken Griffey Sr. Rule.
January 15, 20179 yr Author Wow, rough night, huh.:lol2: It's not a tonight thing. This doesn't smack of silly pretentiousness to you for these guys to do this?
January 15, 20179 yr I wouldn't allow it unless the other was on the same team. Jr., Sr., III aren't your last name.
January 15, 20179 yr I wouldn't allow it unless the other was on the same team. Jr., Sr., III aren't your last name. When I write my name for legal purposes, Jr. is my "Last Name", at least it's the last one I write
January 15, 20179 yr It's not a tonight thing. This doesn't smack of silly pretentiousness to you for these guys to do this? Never really thought about it or crossed my mind until this. I noticed it, but din't read anything into it. Not a biggie with me.
January 15, 20179 yr As for the threads original thought, I agree pretty much...no Sr. unless your kid is Ken Griffey Jr. But even Ken didn't put Sr. on his jersey. I see putting Jr. or III as a sign of respect to your dad, I've got no problem with those.
January 15, 20179 yr They do it so that the whole world knows that they recently had a child. It's kind of showing that they're proud to have a child. It's overplayed and annoying, I agree, but the basis behind it is kind of respectable (unless they're just doing it to follow the trend). The hyphenated names thing I'm pretty sure is when a single mom has a child, she has to put the dad's name on the birth certificate if she wishes to get any child support or anything, but she wants to keep her last name as his, also. That or maybe the child wanted both names to show loyalty to both parents and to have more of an identity.
