What is a common food you have never tasted?

I LOVE shrimp and grits. Wife makes a real good version, but South Carolina low country I must admit is better.
I have not tried the low country version. I had the dish several times when I lived in Mississippi and a couple of time here in the DC area. I miss the cheap, fresh seafood on the Gulf Coast.

Do yourself a favor. Go to Doc Crows here in the Ville, order the lima beans as a side. You'll thank me later.

Been told they are opening one in Cincy at the Banks, but calling it Doc's.

Plain 'ole eggs. The smell of eggs being cooked makes me nauseous, so I've never just eaten one. Not scrambled, not sunny-side up, not poached, and so on.

Man, I eat at least one egg everyday.

If you like shrimp and you ever find yourself between South Carolina and Louisiana, you owe it to yourself to give shrimp and grits a try. I have only had it a few times, but it has already earned a spot on my top five entrees list.

If you ever happen to find yourself in Warsaw, Ky, stop off at Jewell's On Main and get the shrimp and grits. You won't be sorry.

I've been fortunate despite my meager financial situation in life to have been able to sample "common" or "comfort" food from a lot of regional US cultures, as well as several international cuisines. I won't say I've tried most everything, but I'm doing better than most Americans, I would guess.

I have no love for:

squid

olives

anchovies

cilantro — tastes like soap in heavy doses

fish that looks back at me (crustaceans excepted)

testicles

brussel sprouts — no, Mom, they most decidedly do not taste like broccoli, which is good. They do, however, taste like an ashtray.

fruitcakes — Really, old ladies? Does nobody tell you how awful your concoctions are?

liver and onions (urp)

wilted lettuce (double urp)

Oh, and just because you can pickle everything, doesn't mean you should try to. The "pickled chicken" my mom and her sisters speak so longingly about wins the coveted "TRIPLE URP!"

I've eaten just about everything common at least once and quite a bit of uncommon.

Wife's grandfather used to eat souse meat (aka head cheese) and tried to get me to try it. Not happening. I saw stuff in there that looked like gills and fingernails floating around in a gelatinous goo. Yuck.

That is where I draw the line

That looks like something we used to call pork and beef.

Not food, but I've never had coffee. I hate the smell.

I don't mind the smell but I've, also, never tasted it.

Frog legs. my mom cooked some once and didn't cut the tendons. As she was frying them they started jumping around in the skillet. Didn't eat any then and have never eaten any.

I have never tried them. No aversion to them. Just never had them.

Agreed. Very tasty.

I never had a brussel sprout until a few years ago and now I love them if they're roasted. Salazar's on OTR has some GREAT sprouts.

The only thing I eat "pickled" is pickles. Nothing else.

I've never had frog legs either.

You've eaten them a lot, just not solo.

Right. I was trying to convey that by saying "I've never just eaten one", but I may have left it too ambiguous. There are lots of things that I'll eat as ingredients, but not alone. I despise onions, but some things I eat have onions in them, just cooked to a point that their flavor is unrecognizable. Eggs as a component, not on their own, they lack the same smell, and I've eaten things that they're a component of. But a plain egg on its own, which is almost as common as it gets for most people, not a single time.

My wife was talking about some diet that cuts out all grains and sugars, but we determined I couldn't do it because there'd basically be no breakfast I could eat. People who do the diet eat eggs almost exclusively for breakfast.

Wouldn't you much rather have a nice combination sandwich?
Good stuff right there. :thumb:

I love froglegs. One of my favorite things.

I also really like crawdads

I love shrimp and grits

I love most any seafood, love it

I love pickled eggs, pickled sausages, pickled corn etc. but I HATE dill pickles

I love sauerkraut but it don't love me lol

My parents used to eat pickled pigs feet, never could bring myself to try it
