What is a common food you have never tasted?

Featured Replies

If it's a common food, I have tried it, and most things I like. I'm not picky on the food, just the preparation. For instance, I love roasted beets, I hate pickled beets.

RM,

Ever tried pickled corn? It's an acquired taste. My granddad used to make it. I hated it when I was a kid but I enjoy it now.

-Most seafood... lobster, oysters, etc... (though I've had deep fried fish, and on rare occasions I've tried shrimp...I did try crab legs once and it made me want to hurl).

-Beets

-Turnips

-Liver

I have tried it. I don't hate it, but I don't actively seek it out or make it myself.

Usually holidays is about the only time I have it.

I've had pretty much every common food I can think of at least once. If you consider Pigs feet or chitterlings common, those would be two that I've never had nor do I doubt I ever will.

eggplant.

Gotta prep and cook it correctly. Make sure you soak for a generous period of time beforehand to reduce bitterness.

Lobster for me.

What say you?

We had lobster at home this past Thursday (I cooked).

Are beets common? That's probably my answer.

Love pickled beets. Plain - can't stand them.

I cannot think of a common food I haven't eaten before!

From a worldly perspective I haven't had much indian food. Which I've been told I would like since I enjoy spicy/hot foods!

Indian Bistro on Beechmont Avenue. Their little buffet is great. Took daughter and her Australian fiancee last week. He has eaten a LOT of Indian food. His description of the place after our meal - legit.

Liver - I refuse

LOVE liver. Wife makes fried chicken livers with bacon, mushrooms, and onions over rice that is better than Moyer's (Winery) version.

With the seafood talk it reminds me, there is one somewhat common food that I've never tried (unless I was young and don't remember it) but would love to. Crawfish. I'm picky with seafood and like it as fresh as possible, which means not frozen. When I was working in Louisiana, I tried to find fresh crawfish given that they love them down there, but apparently they were out of season and I was told to wait until they're back in season so I can try them fresh. By the time they were in season I had been relocated to Wisconsin. So I have yet to try fresh crawfish.

I've eaten just about everything common at least once and quite a bit of uncommon.

Wife's grandfather used to eat souse meat (aka head cheese) and tried to get me to try it. Not happening. I saw stuff in there that looked like gills and fingernails floating around in a gelatinous goo. Yuck.

That is where I draw the line

Wouldn't you much rather have a nice combination sandwich?
