Corbin Football

Featured Replies

Coaching staff is with the times they have changed the play book quite a bit, how many times in the eightys did they go twins, full combo, trips, quads, double wing, motion, and air it out like we do today. I veture to be not very many, i know some of this was around but it wasn't done in high school football much at all and some of it never done. I think the coaches are with the times, wether it be drills, study sessions, or equipment.

At least the coaches are trying to be with the times....i give them props for trying to open up the play book now but im not so sure they know exactly how to coach that kind of football.

I'll probably get in trouble for this, but is it possible that some of the Corbin fans have overinflated, unreasonable expectations for their team?

I remember a few years ago, about 2000 and 2001, some Corbinites were on here proclaiming the Redhounds' basketball team as among the most talented team in the state. I saw that team a few times in that span, both in the regular season and in summer play, and they were nowhere near that talented. They were a solid team, but nowhere near being a state contender.

I will assure you that they do know how to coach that kind of football. I know first hand they know it in and out.

Heard tonight that Coach Baker has resigned. I didn't know him but all the kids loved him.

I hate to see any coach resign and hope nothing is going bad for him. I wasn't familiar with him other than just knowing who he was on the sidelines. What did he coach?

Also, I would like to see Corbin add former Redhound lineman Derek Marlow to the staff. He has a great football mind and would be one of the better motivators and stregth coaches Corbin has had since Clyde Burchette.

The only expectation Corbin fans have, is to win. Thats not so unreasonable. When that isn't happening, Corbin fans aren't happy.

I believe his resignation was work related, if I understand correctly he is moving to Louisville.

where did you get the information about corbin losing in the preseason to lynn camp and knox central.....they didnt play either teams.....how can you even compare corbin to teams such as williamsburg, lynn camp, or knox central....yea you are right they do have better records but the teams they play against are teams such as...jellico,pineville,onieda, and many more. Im not saying they have bad teams but, they also play much inferior teams corbin plays teams like BELL CO., ROCKCASTLE CO, SOUTH LAUREL, M'BORO, and records show that its not how you play in the regular season its how you do it in the post season and history shows that corbin does it.

Diehard, I'd love to agree with you BUT the fact is...

Williamsburg beat us in the last meeting. So no matter how much we want to tell ourselves we are above/better than them (and I truly wish we were), we can't because they are one up on us!

Only winning 1 of our first 4 contest indicates we are heading to the level you believe Williamsburg, K.C., and Lynn Camp to be on. If those three teams played our schedule they would be 1 and 4 as well.

Its hard for this Corbin fan to believe we are on the same level with Bell and Rock when both have beaten us in the last 4 weeks. Its simply cannot be not true.

Well go support one of them, Were full of fair weather fans loosing one won't matter. How many times has corbin beat williamsburg? They beat us once and all of a sudden they are overly supperior to us? No it simply can not be true.

Corbin losing to W'burg was a fluke. Corbin played the worst game of football they played that whole season and W'burg played the best game they played all season and the game was still so very close.

If name-calling is your best response, then my point is well made. I do want to expand on the comments you have made, True Redhound.

What ever happened to earning the right to be the top team in the area? Years ago, I watched Corbin teams beat some of Kentucky's best teams; like Middlesboro when they were ranked #1 or #2, or Mayfield when they were near the top of the National Super 25. Back then, your comments would be right on target, Corbin was top dog, and was at least a few notches above anyone in the area except Middlesboro.

However, in the last few seasons the Redhounds haven't earned the right to be called top dog in the area. Here is why:

Since the 2002 season: 1 win and 5 loss record against Bell; Rock we split (1 win, 1 loss) and against South we also have a 1 win 5 loss record. Over this period, against these three teams we have a total record of 3 wins vs. 11 losses since 2002. Throw in a loss to another area team (Williamsburg) and the collective record is 3 wins vs. 12 losses. A 3 WIN 12 LOSS RECORD IS NOT REFLECTIVE OF A TEAM THAT IS ABOVE/BETTER/NOT COMPARABLE TO ANYONE!!!!

You can call me a fairweather fan, or whatever else you'd prefer. But what you can't do is deny these facts. You make it sound like area teams like K.C., Wburg, and Lynn Camp are not capable of beating us. I have news for you: One, I'm not a fairweather fan (just a smart one that can see past a line of garbage). Two, any team in the area is VERY capable of beating us (Note I ever said Wburg is overly superior to us as you claim I did). Three (and most important: THE RIGHT TO BE CALLED THE BEST IS PROVEN BY PERFORMANCE ON THE FIELD, AND 3 AND 12 IS NOT OVER SUPERIOR!!!

Thank You for your time.

Corbin losing to W'burg was a fluke. Corbin played the worst game of football they played that whole season and W'burg played the best game they played all season and the game was still so very close.

... Actually the Somerset game was by far the best Wburg played that year,Cumberland and Hazard games were pretty good also......Wburg played average at best the Corbin game.................Corbin has an excellent football program, tradition and fans. Truth of the matter is at least the last 3 years Corbin could not have won Class A district 7 or 8 and Wburg, Somerset, LC or Pikeville have been better than any other team in Corbins district. I dont think Corbin football has dropped off alot over the years but schools around here have picked it up. I also believe soccer has hurt Corbin football by taking some of the faster kids
