No they will be i believe the Second or third biggest 2A school with 318 males.

I know all about Corbin's tradition. I have not seen the Redhounds play in a few years. However, I have been told by some people in the Corbin area that they are losing some kids in the school and on the team to other schools in the area. Lynn Camp, South Laurel and Whitley Co., I was told. This is probably the main reason. It has happened to Somerset also. These were two of the premier programs of 2A for about a 25 year stretch.

Not lost many kids to other schools. Lost alot of good athletes to other sports.

Corbin actually has over 365 males in the school this year, but the KHSAA used enrollment figures from 2 years ago in determining the classes instead of current numbers. They will probably go to 3A when the next classification is done in two years.

Yeah that is what i was going by, but as of now they will be a large 2A school.

I was trying to quote mr fundamental earlier when i posted about when was corbins last state championship, (sorry im kinda new to this) i was trying to make the point that they would have had a REAL chance to win the state championship a couple of years ago if Issac Mills hadn't gotten injured against O'Cath, thats just my opinion though.

One player won't make a team. All though that was a huge blow.

I think if a team was going to win a state championship they would overcome the loss of a player, especially a player who wouldn't be considered neccecarily a "go to" player.

just quoting coach farris from that years banquet, by the way, this is 2a football, one player can make a huge difference, when a player is going both ways with a lot of offensive plays centered around them as well as a defensive back on a team that is short on defensive backs playing a team that passes 80% of the time one player can make a huge difference.

Never said he wasn't. He was a great player and a huge loss. But that it the time that somebody has to step up and ease the pain.

issac mills was a go to guy....how can you say he wasnt.. he was one of the best recievers in 2a that year if not the best.

If I remember right Brad Lawson was the "go to guy".....Isaac was a great player but the team could/should have recovered from his loss.. JMO

I'd like to see next years schedule include.

Confirmed Games

Belfry- Pike Co Bowl

Danville- Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic

Middlesboro (District)

Leslie Co (District)

Knott County Central (District)

What I would like to see.

Lynn Camp/Whitley- Needs to be played and rotated on a yearly basis.

South Laurel

Bell County- This game should never be removed.

Rockcastle

Cumberland- going to be a solid team next year and used to have a good rivalry with Corbin in the late 80's early 90's. I'd like to see em play one more time before the consolodation. Plus I'm originally from there and being greedy.

Coach Burchette and his strength program really helped bring the Hounds up to the dominant power it was in the '70's and early '80's. Also, some of those '70's teams included some of the toughest, meanest, nastiest, boys ever to line-up on Friday nights. Where are the John Francioni's on this years's team? Where are the RC Thomas' ? What about Ronnie Watkins? These were guys that looked 25, had full facial beards and facial scars, and God-only knows what they did prior to the start of the game or what was on tap after they pulverized another opponent 63-0. Teams that played Corbin back then had a geniune fear for their safety and well-being. Teams were intimated and knew they were going to lose BEFORE game's beginning. Sadly, it is no longer that way. The Hounds have lost their edge. They have lost their toughness. You guys can debate the reasons for this. I'll pull out my old high school annuals and remember the glory days...the days of Corbin and M'Boro for winner-takes-all district and playoffs. You can have your Green County games(and now Garrad and Wayne). I remember old school TOUGH, take no prisoners blood and guts on Friday nights. The Hounds have lost their toughness. They no longer strike fear into opponents. Teams now feel they can walk onto the hallowed grounds of Campbell Field and come away with a win. I'm hearing comments from fans(both Hound and non-Hound), former players(both Hound and non-Hound), and other observers from around the area, that Corbin has lost its swagger, its mystique, its TOUGHNESS. A father of a player from one of Corbin's opponents recently told me that his son said, "Corbin is just a bunch of pansies. They are not tough like they used to be." Teams like Lynn Camp , South Laurel, Williamsburg, Knox Central, and Whitley Co. view themselves as Corbin's equal(or superior). Such nonsense used to not exist. Again, you guys keep debating the reasons for the fall from glory and what needs to be done to return to the top. But face reality right now, Corbin is no longer a top tier football program. It is in the same league as the schools mentioned above. Four straight losses to South, a loss to Williamsburg, and pre-season losses to Lynn Camp and Knox Central will attest to that. Having said all this, good luck to the Hounds tonight against an always tough Hilton-coached Bell County squad. It's time to regain pride and toughness and show it on the field instead of just mouthing it. My very educated guess is that the Hilton's Hosses and Roark's Roughneck's will just reinforce for all of us just as far the once mighty Hounds have fallen. I'm gonna go listen to a little Springsteen's "Glory Days" before having to endure the pain later tonight at Campbell Field. Good luck to the Hounds tonight. Nowadays, we need a lot of it.

I think perhaps the fact that the coaching around the area has improved a lot. Alot of teams have changed their playstyle and perhaps Corbin has yet to adjust to some of that. I also think that parents today baby their kids too much. Nothing drives me crazier than a kid doing something dumb on the field (or court for that matter) and their parents telling them its alright, even though the coaching staff has told them numerous times not to do that very thing. I think Corbin will be fine was they get into district play this year and I expect the program to pick up some next year with the new districts. Too bad somerset didn't want to stick around for that.

Good post in some areas, ill agree the kids are not near as tough as they used to be. I think a big cause of that is the parents pampering the kids way too much!
