That 1996 Corbin team was the best team I have ever seen in the past 20 years. Yes I think they would have beaten the Trinity's and males. Yes I think they could have won any class that year. No I am not being a Corbin homer, they were just that good when they played their A game.

I will have to agree with you on this one. Corbin was very good that year and I'm not sure how good Male & Trinity were, but one of them probably would have swept through 2A that year as they would most years.

 

Corbin did miss a good opportunity that year though. Now the 1983 team............well, nevermind.

I'm thinking that Cawood was on there to so maybe they replaced Somerset and Somerset was a playoff game. I'm not really sure but those are the teams they played but not in the order of games played.

They had one of the most dominating lines with Robertson, Devaughn, Kelly, Meton, Ball, Trimble.

 

They had one of the most dominating backfields with Bargo, Warren, Compton, Prewitt, Cobb, Massengill.

 

They had two great QB's in Danny Steely and Jerry Allen Baker.

 

The Wide Reciever Corps was loaded with Ricky Hensley, Phil Russell Jeremy Baker, Ryan Meeks, Roman Cassidy, Lucas Hammons, Seth Hauser.

 

I really and truly think, this team was destined for greatness. If not for them looking ahead to Breathitt in which they would have handled the following week. What if's that I speak would be non existant.

Looking at the players on that team, I see 4-5 that received Div-1 scholarships and several others that had good careers at smaller schools.

Martin Pennington & Alan Sadler both made 1st team all-state that year while playing for Corbin. Nooners Reedy, Mike Frederick & Todd Trosper were starters, but I'm having a hard time thinking of others who played on that team.

Corbin scored in the 1st quarter and tried to fake the extra-point kick and ended up losing 7-6(Tony Massey had a long run for the S'set score) in a game they dominated everywhere except the scoreboard.

I believe that was 1982. Current head-coach Steve Jewell was a linebacker on that team.

Steve Jewell, Danny Rawlings, Tom Greer, Greg Duncum, best that i can recall they were loaded with Juniors and a few outstanding seniors. Greer and Jewell both signed div.1 1983 was a team that was loaded with talent and about 8 starter back from that state champion team. 1976 team could have been the best in school history.

They may not have been quite as talented as some of these teams mentioned, but the 2001 (maybe 2002) team had a lot of talent and made an early exit in the playoffs. BJ Foley, Bram Hoover, Stephen Cook, Matt Williams, Derrick Marlow, Levi Skeen and Jarrod Lawson were some of the players that I can remember. I also believe that was the group that went like 32-0 or something like that all through middle school, with the exception of Jarrod.

Corbin Football was built by CSX and Pepsi, when you have those two organizations putting people to work, you can get whoever you want to play football.

 

 

But what do I know

 

I'm sure that a parent or two of a Corbin varsity football player may work for CSX or Pepsi, but I sure can't think of any. Give us some examples of current or past players whose moved to Corbin to play football after getting jobs at these businesses.

I met Dan and his brother Steve in college, Danny kept me entertained, great guys. Danny lived in Wildcat Lodge and had to be one of the colerful residents the lodge has ever seen

Corbin has lost to both Lynn Camp and Knox Central in Grid-a Rama games in recent years.

Since when do preseason games matter. Maybe they bought grid rings for there teams. Corbin uses that game to see where there at before the season starts as do many. But let it be what it may be to you. I think its time for you to keep up with somebody besides Corbin becaue all you do is bash them.
