Danville in Pigskin and Belfry in Pike Co Bowl is what I'm told.

Point Three: When was the last time Corbin won a state championship? If that is what you measure great teams with!

If i remember correctly, if Issac Mills hadn't of gone down two years ago against owensboro with the knee, Corbin more than likely would have won the state championship that year

I tend to agree with your statements.

I have noticed over the past several years that the fans(epecially the students)take the regular season for granted and really don't get much involved in any of those games. Football is a game of emotion and the players feed off of it in my opinion. You cannot begin to compare the atmosphere during the E-town or O-Catholic playoff games 2 years ago to any regular season game that I have seen in many years. The South Laurel fans for example seemed much more vocal than Corbin's the past couple of games played at Corbin.

Moving Corbin to the west probably contributed to this because they started playing teams that were not well-known by most fans and also the fact that Corbin has dominated the district for so long has made people complacent.

Corbin is not going to out-athlete you, so they have to outwork you and execute better than you if they are going to win titles.

These are very good points. As a casual observer of the program the past few years, I have seen a handful of games at Corbin, including the E-town and O'cath games you mentioned. The contrast between the atmosphere at those games and at the SL game this year really shocked me.

Question: As one of the, if not the most historically dominant program in this part of the state, I wonder if Corbin's successful past hasn't had an indirect affect on the perceived slide.

Hear me out on this one.

With Corbin in the area, the bar is set high. As a result, other schools in the area, schools that might traditionally be more hoops-oriented, felt it necessary to raise the bar for their respective programs. Corbin traditionally was an attractive option for football prospects in the area to get noticed. But over time, other schools became a viable option, and Corbin suffers a bit as a result. A dual-edged sword, if you will, in that Corbin forced everyone else to focus on improving their football programs. When that happened, Corbin may not have necessarily dropped back to the pack, but it just appears that way because of how the other programs have risen to the challenge.

Does that make sense?

How many teams over the last 20 years could make a staement like that?????IF

That would be 2 great games...Belfry and Corbin in the Pike County Bowl would be a great way to get the season started.

With Coach Jackson being a former Redhound maybe we will see a few more Pikeville vs. Corbin games in the future.

If the sun does not rise tomorrow things will not matter, if the 1948 team of somewhere did something they would have won a state title!

The if's could go on forever, but the fact remains that they did not!

All the other schools in the area have really improved in football, which is good.

Corbin sits in a unique situation geographically. There are kids who play at other area schools and live within their boundaries that live much closer to the Corbin schools than they do their own schools. They grew up playing youth sports in Corbin with the Corbin kids and would usually attend the Corbin school system. The Laurel Co. school system got more strict with the kids who lived in Laurel Co.(accusing Corbin of only taking the good students and athletes and refusing any problem students) and would not release them to go to the Corbin schools. Over a period of time(students already in the Corbin system and their siblings were allowed to still attend Corbin, Corbin started losing the kids from the North Corbin area who in the past(especially the athletes) went to Corbin.

Corbin's school system has really been growing over the past several years and the number of students in the high school and the middle school is at an all-time high, largely because of the academic reputation they have achieved over the last few years. They will get a few more athletes due to the sheer increase in numbers and from what I have seen, the future looks pretty bright from the junior class down to the 6th grade if they can keep them playing.

If they had a few more RJ or JR Thomas's they would win them all, that guy scared me.

Whatever happened to him.

82 Hound

How are the Rawlings brothers doing?

RC Thomas??

Terrible story that I don't want to get into......

.............'76, '80, '82, ? runner up in '62, '77 '90 and '02. So, if you measure success or great teams by the number of state championships, we haven't been very succesful or great in the past 24 years..

But on the other hand, not too many AA teams have played in that many (7) state championship games. I know Mayfield had at least 9 and Danville 6 or 7.

Yes, it was RC that I recall from my childhood, I got a PM that explained things, a real tradegy for one of the best I have ever watched. Sorry guys if I went somewhere that needed to be left alone.

Being a Mayfield Cardinal and a Corbin Redhound is in my opinion, very similar, I have always been partial to the Hounds because they seem so similar to my beloved Cardinals. Both communities are small KY towns where Friday Night Lights are still sacred

No need to leave it alone, just didn' feel the board was an appropriate place to explain things. I was going to PM you myself...
