Cooper 49 Lexington Catholic 45

9th region has been legit for about 4 yrs now and still is a hard region to win.

A few regions have been but to compare the 9th to the 6th and 11th this year is a faulty comparison. The 6th is a monster this year and I don't see the 9th as a whole being better than the 11th. I do think the 9th is better than the 7th this year.

May be a valid point but simply not in the DNA of this team. Hendrix was the only one the missed the regionals last year. McNeil and Kunkle played in the loss to NCC. Just hoping the McNeil brothers make it back soon and there are no more injuries. This team has a chance to be really special when they are at full strength.

Kunkel played in last year's regional but was clearly playing injured. He was not even close to healthy.

I don't buy the win-every-possession style is a problem as Don't Hate the Player posted. Plenty of teams play win-every-possession. Cov Cath plays that way. Every good team plays hard every possession. Injuries just happen.

Kunkel and McNeil did play in the region last year but McNeil got his cast off his shooting hand 3 days before and Kunkel could hardly move out on the court with his leg injury. He was just gutting it out that game.

Watched this game online and wondered. Is LexCath missing some players? Two players had 37 of their 45 points. Are they just a 2 man show offensively? Also heard that player Payne is KY. assistant coach Payne's son?

Yes, Zan Payne is KP's son. He plays with a tremendous motor. Great young man and teammate also.

Thought it was interesting that the Lexington Herald Leader article blamed the Lex Cath loss on "cold shooting" and gave ZERO credit to Cooper's tough defense. Oh well, spin it how you want LHL....

Lexington Coverage sometimes has a homerish feel to it.

Or put another way in this case, it appears numerous local businesses like being on Lexington Catholic's good side.

When you hold LexCath to 45 points that isn't cold shooting. That is top notch defense.

I agree guys. Catholic missed some easy ones but Cooper's D had a ton to do with that. Catholic had one player who could generate office and create against their defense. Catholics other players were overmatched. Cooper/CCH will be entertaining in the 9th..

Cooper will contend for the 9th Region make no mistake about it, well coached and deep. Get everyone healthy for the long stretch and things may go their way

Pretty much...yes Zan is Kennys son...monster rebounder...soph I believe.

Hey fellas I'm a guy from Paris that was very impressed w the coaching of Cooper..those kids are put in the right positions to maximize their talents...Kunkle can ball real poised w the ball along w Hendrix..role players knock down open shots...and most importantly...they D you up..wish you guys well this year. #ParisPride

Is there some reason that LexCath always seems to be the school of choice for kids of UK coaches?

Probably has a lot to do with good school academically as well as good program.

Outstanding academics and a traditionally strong basketball program.
