This is not the Soviet Union, Jesse. We do not have to like the man in the Oval Office and the Secret Service does not routinely visit people who do not make threats against those under their protection.

I have wanted someone with a business background to run for years. He was not my choice, but those I would have chosen didn't run. Can he get rid of some of the awful regulation and taxes that hurt small business, I don't know. Small business puts people to work and we are tired of being dumped on. As a Christian, I am tired of being told I am racist, homophobic, and can't say Merry Christmas. I will give him a chance.

This is disturbing. And it's exactly what I fear Trump's following wants. An iron-fisted strongman who will steamroll the constitution to punish dissidents and reward loyalists. I fear we are taking a dramatic slide into authoritarianism.

I have a friend who is a Trump supporter who claims that previous to him running he didn't know much about him, and I also have another friend who is anti-Trump who also claims that he didn't know much about him either.

 

When I asked both of them if they were dead serious about this they both said why would they lie about something like that? Though this perplexes me, I have no other choice but to believe them.

 

He's been in the news for years so it's hard for me to grasp others not knowing much about him, and from the very first time I ever saw him I thought that he was a strange smarmy power trippin' spoiled rotten rich loud mouth ego-maniac starving for attention.

 

He made me cringe. He has always made me cringe. Nothing that he has ever done has ever changed this feeling in me, and over the past year though I didn't think that it was possible, seeing his campaign made me dislike him a thousand times more mostly because before I could simply ignore and dismiss him, however now it's all a bit too real that he is on his way to being the POTUS.

 

We have discussed him time and again in other threads, but within this thread what I am solely interested in hearing from everyone, right, left, for and against, and everywhere in between is what your knowledge was of him PREVIOUS to him running for the POTUS, and what your thoughts about him were THEN?

I know this thread isn't really for me but I have never liked him. I've always felt he was a con artist who craved the eye of the public even though he wasn't really doing anything. Kind of like a Kardashian.

Beyond the obvious icons of his career - real estate, building, casinos, TV - I remember hearing him on the radio - maybe CNBC business on XM and remember him talking about using American-made, American-owned products in his buildings. He tore into the Chinese for their inferior and sometimes dangergous products. He talked about using American-made (more specifically North Carolina made) furniture whenever he could.

 

Politically, he seemed like a tease. A business/fiscal conservative with very liberal social values. While Oprah and other quized him about running he was always dismissive.

 

One thing is - when did he go from fairly reserved to his current outspokeness? Did that come with the TV show? He used to be very calm and reserved as a younger man.

I though he was a bombastic gas bag who I really didn't care for but when it became apparent that he was going to be the nominee I realized he was the only candidate that had a chance to keep the Clintons out of the White House so he got my vote.

 

I also find it AMAZING how after more the 30 years in the public eye none of the charges of racism or sexual predation ever surfaced until ne ran for President.

 

Why would anyone care if he was racist before he ran for POTUS? He was a try hard with a reality TV show. I've never understood that statement when people say that. "No one cared if Trump was racist until he ran for POTUS." Well no crap. I don't care if an egotistical billionaire is racist but I will care if he decides he wants to be my POTUS. It's only the most prestigious title in the free world.
