You don't go left to right before finishing the parenthetical operation, which includes the "2".

December 14, 20169 yr Order of operations: BEDMAS - Brackets, Exponents, Divide, Multiply, Add, Subtract Brackets first: 1+2=3, so the equation is now 6/2(3) Exponents: None, so the equation is still 6/2(3) Divide: 6/2=3, so the equation is now 3(3) Multiply: 3x3=9 Answer is 9

December 15, 20169 yr The answer, as it is written, is 9. This is not difficult. For it to be 1. The equation would have to be written 6/(2(1+2))

December 15, 20169 yr I scored pretty high in algebra in high school, but admittedly over the years have forgotten much that I had learned. With that said my instincts instantly had me concluding the answer to be '9' without realizing that there's be any reason to dispute it. I see now where the '1' folks are coming from, but I'm still content with sticking with '9'. ...And I think that @coldweatherfan in post #38 made a great straightforward case for it in the most simplist of terms.
