February 2, 20179 yr So you think Tillerson was a slam dunk nominee? Probably not, but that high profile of position was bound to get heavy opposition whom ever it was...unless President Trump had picked a Democrat or John McCain.
February 2, 20179 yr I am glad Tillerson was approved. Trump with former Goldman Sachs employee/media man Bannon whispering in his ear and no balancing advice and opinions is a problem. Things are going to get a little scary pretty soon in my opinion. Trump will follow through on promises and shake things up in Iran and Putin is going to feel emboldened to get aggressive in the Ukraine again.

February 2, 20179 yr So, I have a related non-partisan question: Is political experience helpful/hurtful in fulfilling the duties of an office like this? On one hand, I'd like someone not jaded by pocket lining lobbyists. On the other hand, I'd like someone to not be naive to the workings of the government.
February 2, 20179 yr Who was the balancing voice the last 8 years? I don't give a :poop:. None of the people making decisions for the last 8 years are making decisions now so why should I care about them. I care about now. Do you care about now?

One should always learn from historical mistakes and successes. The past 8 years were full of lessons to be learned about what actions should not be repeated. Undoubtedly, the next 8 years will provide many lessons about which policies work and which ones do not work.

Do you really believe that the longtime CEO of a large corporation is going to be a "yes man" for the President? I have a hard time believing that most of Trump's cabinet is going to simply lay down and not voice differing opinions.
February 2, 20179 yr I don't give a :poop:. None of the people making decisions for the last 8 years are making decisions now so why should I care about them. I care about now. Do you care about now? I do care, my question where was anyone wondering about a balancing voice in the past. I understood that President Obama and the Democrats were in charge. I didn't expect him to have a republican or conservative in his ear "Balancing his opinion", he was the President and could have which ever advisers he chose.
February 2, 20179 yr What everyone ( VoiceofReason ) needs to understand here are a few simple concepts. 1. Barry Obama is no longer president. 2. Donald Trump is. 3. Hillary Clinton lost. 4. Elections have consequences. 5. The Democrats are powerless. Now Voice of Reason, since you have touted to have voted for Republicans before( I would really like to hear who, given your recent posts) who would you have picked?
February 2, 20179 yr Politically, I was far from being a fan or supporter of President Obama. That being said the man was President of the United States. Due to that fact in my eyes he deserves a little more respect if for no other reason than to show respect for the Presidency itself. Continuing to call him Barry, is counterproductive. How can conservatives request that the left give President Trump a chance or encourage them to be respectful if we can't do the same? For better or worse President Obama served the country for 8 years and I believe he likely did what he thought was best for the country, even if I strongly have issues with some of his policies. I'm not an avid reader and get the majority of my news, political or otherwise from BGP. Lately some of these threads are very tiresome to read. Both sides are guilty of extreme hyperbole, purposely distorted facts, a general lack of respect, and frankly personal attacks. It's gotten to where I don't read as much on here as I used to, similar to Facebook. I've been a member here quite a bit longer than my current username would imply, and perhaps I'm remembering the past too fondly, but it seems like discussions on here, even those of a political nature were much more civil. Maybe we all could keep that in mind and as a group "Make BGP great again"

Trump is President. I want him to keep us safe and prosperous. That is all I care about.

When I said balancing opinion I mean experienced and not radical.
February 2, 20179 yr Didn't Obama go by Barry in his younger days? Yes he did. However in the request to "Make BGP Great Again" I will give him his due. Former President Obama. Now I think "Everyone" needs to give the current President his due, and shut up about how bad he is, how he is gonna kidnap the babies, ban the LGBTQ to ISIS and let them sodomize them, and lets see how his policies work or do not work. Im game, who else is?
February 2, 20179 yr Didn't Obama go by Barry in his younger days? I suppose that is true, however, the only time that I see him refered to as Barry anymore is in a derogatory manner. And it usually appears that the name is used in an effort to show disrespect. Just my opinion. I'd be fine with simply Obama or Trump, but Barry or Donnie or whatever, just seems disrespectful to me.
