December 16, 20169 yr I'd like to be a fly on the wall when the new SOS and President Trump start talking economic sanctions. Particularly involving oil.
February 1, 20179 yr The Senate has just confirmed Mr. Tillerson as Secretary of State by a vote of 56-43. Three Democrats and one Independent voted to confirm Sec. Tillerson. Everyone else voted party lines.
February 1, 20179 yr I just saw that Kerry was confirmed 94-3, HRC 94-2, Condy Rice 85-13, Madeline Albright 99-0... Times are different in Washington now...
February 1, 20179 yr I just saw that Kerry was confirmed 94-3, HRC 94-2, Condy Rice 85-13, Madeline Albright 99-0... Times are different in Washington now... Could it be the quality of the candidate is different?
February 1, 20179 yr Could it be the quality of the candidate is different?:lol2: No, I don't think that is it. We are talking about two of the absolute worst Secretaries of States in this country's history.
February 1, 20179 yr Could it be the quality of the candidate is different? Not sure yet...if Tillerson sat in a chair for the next four years and did not do one thing, I would think he would be better than Kerry...JMO I think it speaks more to how outraged the Dems are now...the last 3 Dem SOS's got 5 no votes total...
February 2, 20179 yr :lol2: No, I don't think that is it. We are talking about two of the absolute worst Secretaries of States in this country's history. Tillerson's resume is very different - perhaps the most unusual of any other Secretary of State. That is no factor? A person with no experience except traveling the world and meeting people through business deals? Zero government experience? I am not so naive or biased to believe politics aren't involved. I hope others aren't so blinded by bias that they can't see how different Tillerson is.
February 2, 20179 yr Tillerson's resume is very different - perhaps the most unusual of any other Secretary of State. That is no factor? A person with no experience except traveling the world and meeting people through business deals? Zero government experience? I am not naive enough to believe politics aren't involved. I hope others aren't so blinded by bias that they can't see how different Tillerson is.Tillerson has succeeded on his own merits. If frequent flier miles were an indication of diplomatic skills, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry would be the very best of the best Secretaries of State in our country's history. We all seen where their resumes left this country in only eight years. A party that turned our national security to two such extremely incompetent political hacks lacks any standing to disqualify anybody. The biggest difference in Hillary and Kerry vs. Tillerson is that the former two have been monumental failures and the latter has been very successful running a very large organization. I hope everybody sees how different Tillerson is too.

What ever the issue, the SoS is in a position to negotiate for the US. Tillerson may be extremely qualified for that job with his professional background. We'll have to wait and see before any of us can determine how good of a job he may or may not do.
February 2, 20179 yr As far as credentials prior to being selected, Kerry probably had the best resume of the three you list in your post.
February 2, 20179 yr As far as credentials prior to being selected, Kerry probably had the best resume of the three you list in your post.Kerry's grades and test scores were average. He was a lackluster U.S. Senator, an unsuccessful presidential candidate, and a miserable failure as a Sec. of State. Would you bet the farm that the CEO of the one of the largest commercial organizations in the world is a man of average intelligence who is not a skilled negotiator or a good judge of character?
February 2, 20179 yr After Clinton and Kerry anyone is going to look great.Exactly. They cannot do much worse.
