kinglouie Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Ordered something from a company in Louisiana. To be delivered to Fort Mitchell Ky. Package made it all the way to Independence Ky (15 minutes away at most), and is now back south in Alabama when it switched from Fedex to SMARTPOST to USPS I guess. Why do they do this? Is it the shipper or the shipping company? I could have had on the 5th it seems easily, and now they are saying the 10th before it gets back up here from Alabama. Seems to me that with technology at the level it is now, there would be checks in place that would say this does not seem smart and cost effective. Oh well, last Christmas presents so it shows up Saturday as now scheduled and I wont have to worry about it. TheDeuce Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Simple solution. Don't order from someone that uses FedEx. Ask @plantmanky.

maysvilleky Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I don't use FEDEX unless it's absolutely the last option.
woodsrider Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Unless you are going to pay extra for shipping there really isn't room to complain. I don't think people realize what a huge cost freight is to companies. If they are offering free or really low shipping rates you can expect these kind of things. Pay for the premium and most of the time you will not have complaints. I ordered a Curry jersey for my son and it was shipped using Fedex Smart Post. I rolled with it because it was free and knew I had plenty of time before Christmas. It left Grove City, OH on 12/1, was delivered to me in Evansville, IN by the post office on 12/5.
Irish Cat Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I had the same thing happen recently. Ordered an out of stock item from a mall store for my daughter. It began it's journey in Evansville, IN and toured about 4 other states before arriving on my doorstep in Owensboro, KY about 30 miles away. I'm not really complaining about it as I don't care, but it doesn't seem like if would be financially prudent for the shipper to have the item travel to so many locations before arriving just a short distance from the starting point.

Lawnboy13 Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 FedEx SmartPost is a low-cost shipping option by which the package is carried across the country via FedEx's system, then handed off to the U.S. Postal Service. (When people get free or very inexpensive shipping from online retailers or catalogs, it's often because one of these alternative methods is used.) After the package leaves FedEx's system, the delivery time depends on the local postal system and how quickly they move. Bottomline, stop being a chin-chiseler (AKA a cheap donkey), and use the real professionals like me (FedEx Express).........except if you order printer parts.

lawildcat Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I'm waiting on a package via UPS that's been up and down I-75 a few times now. It's only 12/7 though so no need to panic.
JDEaston Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I spent some time with UPS and to be honest it's somewhat normal for that to happen @kinglouie. I will say though, that generally when your package gets to a facility as close as you are, it generally hits a truck that delivers it to the USPS and lets them handle it from that point on. For instance, with UPS here in Ashland, once a package for Surepost hits the facility, it leaves the facility in route to the local post offices via UPS trucks. If you don't have a FedEx or UPS hub near you though, I could see that being the issue.
