De'Von Cooper ruled ineligible

Featured Replies

I don't think Cooper going to his home school would have helped. His home school is Fern Creek. The issue wasn't the school he chose it was because he left for basketball. It is a shame for the kid hope it works out for him.

The reason Trace Young was ruled elidigible after going to Huntington prep was when you are at Huntington you actually attend school at st joes. Therefore it is considered club ball. He was ruled elidigible when he was at cordia. Then over the summer I guess he saw greener pastures.

Good point. I forgot Huntington Prep wasn't really a school and that the kids were enrolled at St. Joe.

This is also my understanding.

How come no one has mentioned the "adults" jerking these kids from place to place. I realize every situation is different, but these kids are being told some misleading information and letting them bounce around like they're free agents.

The kid and his parents or guardians should sue to get his eligibility back. I believe the courts typically rule in favor of the player.

Is there a reason he isn't eligible until after the KOB is complete? Seems weird he was eligible at Cordia and ineligible at North Hardin until right before Christmas.

that and this.....when a kid can actually play games at one school and then leave for another school in the city before Christmas and then become eligible at the new schools at seasons end for the district and regions, but De'Von can't move and come back to the same school regardless the reason he moved in the first place, call me confused on what constitutes a good transfer and eligibility. But I guessed I am no more confused then the people implementing the rules.

I don't think the regular transfer rule is what is in play here. There is a separate rule that applies to boarding schools. My understanding is that, under that rule, he could be eligible only if he left to go to boarding school based on the recommendation of the principal of the school he was attending immediately prior to going to the boarding school or based on a court order. Neither was the case when he left to go to Findlay Prep.

Cooper went to a nationally known prep school, coached by-practiced with some of the best in the nation, & raised his stock nationwide by doing so. Seems like the adults did ok

HaHa...yeah, it looks like they did great. You know, since the kid is actually playing somewhere right now and all.

Believe he played his last game at HP on December 21st of last year

It's a flat shame he and other prep transfers can't come back and play. With all of the crap that is allowed as far as players transferring across town just for sports and the farce of academic guardianship being used to establish residence in a particular district...this is crazy.

So it appears the KHSAA is at least consistent on one thing, if you leave the state to go to a prep school you can't come back without sitting out a year. Glad you have something to hang your hat on KHSAA!

I'll give you one better than this. Ben Moss played at 28 Ft. Academy, last year, their season concluded, he came back home to Apollo and was ruled eligible for the last week of the season and the district tourney last year!

After reading the CJ... I thought he had lots of offers... no just interest

It's all hype
