Off the record means that everyone at that meeting agrees to not print or discuss what happened in their media outlets. Off the record does not mean they can't tell someone else what happened off the record. Off the record pretty much means, "don't quote me and if you say this info came from me I will deny it."

Trump needs to get a grip and calm down. The election is over. Get off twitter. Stop making things worse with comments such as the one directed at the actors in Hamilton. Let others outside of your circle do the yakking, criticism, or praise. Grow some thicker skin. This squabbling back and forth is only making matters worse. There's bigger things now to worry about. He's now president . Behave presidential. This is not a reality show.

No one from the NY Post was there so the "off the record" rules don't apply to the NY Post.

 

How do we know someone from Trump's camp didn't leak it? In my experiences with journalism both sides of the story leak info to their "friends" in the media so they can get their side of the story out first without having their names attached to it. This happens all of the time with every story presented by the media.

There is no such thing as a "you and I" situation when the media is involved. The best you will get from anyone in the media is I will never reveal my source. Other than that all bets are off.

 

If anyone who was at the meeting reports live from the meeting or reports on what went down at the meeting on their network then they broke the rule. Talking to a reporter from NY Post about what happened is not breaking off the record protocol.

I have. It happens all of the time. I usually follow up that info with can I post it? If the answer is yes, I post it. If the answer is no then I don't post it. However, that doesn't mean I won't discuss it with someone else and see what they may or may not know. Information publicly posted on BGP has made plenty of rounds before it is posted in a forum.

News media lives for the scoop. I think he pointed out that he didn't like the way they treated him. If they don't report more fairly, you may not get that little tip and another executive may get the scoop.

While I do not think the meeting was warm and fuzzy, I do not think it was the firing squad some are portraying. On Morning Joe it sounded like the meeting was productive. Like anything else, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
