BG has been a highly respected program for a long, long time (don't know entire history). Has a program benefited more off of expansion than BG, or was this going to happen regardless? This is a question out of pure ignorance of talent levels, factors etc.

Got to see the Fern Creek v CovCath game last night and glad I did! Terrific Game!

 

Fern Creek v BG will be a very good game. This years FC squad reminds me a lot like last seasons group with Kyree Hawkins #3 filling in Kinslows old spot. I think he is faster than Kinslow and a threat to go to the house every play from the RB position. They have several other very good athletes highlighted by #4 Blincoe and #9 Durrah who took the rock to the house in a hurry last night. The OLine was good at staying on their blocks, especially downfield.

 

Defensively, Creek rushes to the ball with great speed and numbers. Kyree Hawkins, remember that name, is the heart and soul, at linebacker.

 

I fully expect for Hawkins to have the most yards gained by FC and the most tackles this coming Friday night.

 

Coach Abell does an excellent job putting his best players in positions to make plays. And he will have an excellent game plan prepared for this game. Remember BG only won 21-0 last year at this spot in BG.

 

FC Stadium is a fun place to watch a game. I encourage all fans to come out and take in next weeks game!

 

BG will have to be disciplined especially defensively and make FC 1-dimensional then load the box. Defensively, I expect FC to be VERY aggressive. But that will be high risk - high reward for their defense. CovCath had some success with disciplined routes downfield. I think BG can have success there as well.

 

The kicking game will be critical for both teams to not give up big plays. Both have some BIG play makers who can take it to the house every time.

 

I'm a BG fan, so obviously I anticipate they will win, but I expect a really close game. Fern Creek will play a HIGH emotional game and give it all they have and they are an excellent team. They will have a good crowd and Purple Nation needs to show up and support BG. Go Purples!

Since you've seen all these defenses do you think Fern Creek can have similar success as they are a good defensive team. Also do you think the change at center has created the protection issues?

It was going to happen regardless. BG has not benefitted from any expansion.

I've wanted to see the Purples for a while. This may be the game I'm at Friday.

Fern Creek will probably challenge the Purples some, but I think Bowling Green wins. Good luck to both teams.

I think McCracken County started the blitz-a-rama and Christian put their spin on it and then Owensboro. Fern Creek will do the same and will have some success but you'd better get there or be able to tackle in space as the consequences are obvious.

 

BG has improved their protection package by pulling the tight end and sometimes Carothers in the backfield to block. Malik Munday, Owensboro's talented LB proved to be very difficult to block. Hawkins will be too.

 

Concerning the change at center, that was coach's decision. I support it as they are with the players all the time. I think the line is doing just fine. The issue has been that smart creative D coordinators have devised schemes to overload 1 side and bring more guys than BG has to block. That has caused problems but when they don't get there it causes equal problems for the D.

 

I will say it again. Fern Creek is an excellent team and will fight BG for all they have. I expect a good hard fought game. Go BG!

You better be very selective on when to Blitz a heady QB like Clark Payne at BGHS. He will burn you. Looking forward to Friday. It should be a great atmosphere with two great teams and two great fan bases.

Let us not forget that BG was up 17-0 and CC starting blitzing like crazy. They had some success with it.....for about a quarter. BG made some adjustments and won the game. Also coach Wallace took blame for not preparing his team for that. That won't happen again.

 

At no point did I feel Owensboro had any chance to win the game. I didn't feel like they were successful very much at all on defense.

 

But the key is if you can get pressure on Clark, the entire game, it can certainly have a major impact.

 

I don't know much about Fern Creek, but if you get this far, you have to be pretty good. The game is a road game for BG. I say BG 35-21.

Yes, the field is behind the school and most literally behind the elementary school next to the high school. From BG, take 65 up to the Gene Synder (I-265) north (first exit for Gene Synder). Travel to Bardstown Rd. Turn left off ramp. Go a mile or so and school and stadium on left. Easy trip!

I think it's worth noting that the three teams that blitzed BG that are being mentioned, McCracken, Christian, and Owensboro did have a little success...

 

...they also ended up giving up 42, 44, and 50 to the BG offense.
