Lexington public schoool football is the big 12 of Kentucky football and I kinda love it. No defense and they ain't ever gonna win a title.

 

I am just happy one Lexington team is advancing. How did the Knights team fair last night and in the Championship last year?

A great game by two strong teams. One thing I am curious though is the sustainability of Lafayette's success. It seems like both last year and this year they cinch the win with some supremely talented players. Will that well run dry anytime soon? Will they still compete at a high level if it does?

 

I could easily see Lafayette becoming the destination school for football in Lexington, but I'm curious to hear from the people who live there and know it better.

Simon Kenton's offense was impressive. Both Qb's and I liked the fast wing back too. But the SK defense reminded me of Highlands defense this year. Almost non-existent. That's why both teams have off season conditioning this week instead of Thanksgiving weekend football.

SKs Achilles' Heel is team speed. Tough to match what 6A teams bring.

Kudos to the many fans/posters who would have loved to come into this thread and turn it into a footballforever74 rub it in session. Several have not only not rubbed it in, they actually have heaped praise on the Pioneers. Well done and classy. Hopefully a learning opportunity for some.

All of this stuff seems to go in cycles. Lafayette has had the talent recently. Before that, Henry Clay was stockpiled. Dunbar had some strong teams before that.

 

But yet, no state championships and few trips to the final game for Lexington city schools. And now you add another high school, which would make me think the talent will be even more spread out and diluted.

 

I will say there is a lot of talented athletes in the city. Lots of issues lead to the talent not leading to ANY championships.

The new school wont impact Lafayette that much. It is going to pull more students from Henry Clay & Bryan Station for the most part. The school will be playing a 6A schedule but will be greatly undersized for the first few years to even compete on that level IMO. I look for that school to have 1200 kids to start out with.

 

Scott Co. has been one of the big reasons that Lexington schools don't get too far in the playoffs, McKee over his 20 years has built a machine that Lexington schools for the most part can't get past in the playoffs (last year being the exception)

Lexington doesn't have open enrollment does it? Makes it impossible to become a destination school unless you're private. You basically have to go where you're told, if I'm not mistaken.

Is that the case? They would be at the mercy of the talent cycles then. Are there any football playing privates other than Lexington Catholic and Lexington Christian Academy?

Each school has a program that kids from all over the county can get into, but the requirements are so different @ each school that an outsider will say that it makes it easier to get into some schools (which is true) but, not all of the programs are equal in admissions.

 

The Academy @ Henry Clay & the MSTC program you have to test into these programs & they probably house the top 1% of the academic minded students in the county.

 

Lafayette's Engineering program is another nice program, but you do not have to test into it, but they look @ your grades coming into high school, you have to write an essay & receive recommendations to be admitted.

 

The IT program & Bryan Station & the IB program @ Tates Creek are both nice programs, but you do not have to test to be admitted into those programs, you just have to want to be in that type of program. Not sure if you have to apply in any way.
