And now the important question, where to eat in Owensboro? I have been to Moonlight BBQ and loved it, should I just stick with that?

One thing you have to respect about the Aces is that they're going to be fundamentally sound, year in, year out. Coach Edge does a great job getting the most out of what he's got. Some years he has more than others. While he's got some very good HS football players, this team doesn't appear to have any real stud athletes that can take over a game or break 2-3 plays in a game that gets them over the hump, just good, fundamentally sound kids that play hard, smart and as a team.

In that regard, they're a mirror image of most Mayfield teams.. The difference this year is Mayfield is still tough, hard-nosed, fundamentally sound and smart, but, this particular year, they also have a plethora of talented athletes with better than normal speed and big play ability on offense and while I've heard several people question the Cardinal D throughout the year, I think those same people are going to be shocked at the D they're putting on the field right now. There DL isn't their best ever, but, very adequate, while the DBs cover and tackle in space as well as any they've had in this recent run, although, they do lack height if you're looking for a knock, while the LBs are outstanding. They're fast, aggressive, great tacklers and when they hit you, it's with a violent purpose and that's from the 1st series to the last. Teams may be able to get a couple of scores on them in a game, maybe even 3 or 4 with turnovers or penalties, but, I don't think anyone in 2a football is going to be able to keep this team under 30..

Try Old Hickory BBQ. I think it's the best meat in town. They guy that owns it won "BarBQ Pitmaster" Competition in 2015. The one you see on TV. BUT IF you want the best sit down atmosphere then go to Moonlite again. Either way you can't go wrong.

I agree with Rambo! Try out Old Hickory:

I've been known to have lunch there and then on my way out of town pick up some in the Drive-Thru Line! Ribs are my favorite!!!

PLUS it's only a few blocks from Kentucky Wesleyan College. That's where the game's at right???

Serious Question for Mayfield fans...... Do you all get HUDL accounts when you pay your city taxes or something? Never seen so many fans with access to game films!

But on a serious note... I'm looking forward to this game. It will be a great atmosphere at Steele Stadium and looking forward to seeing this year's version of Mayfied in person. To be the best you have to beat the best and I'm sure Coach Edge and his crew wouldn't have it any other way.

Now I've read alot of discussion on these teams and I've only seen a handful of Mayfield but yes they are extremely fast and look to be better at WR than they were last year. But this OC team has a little bit of a different feel than years past. They can run the ball and control the clock. In the past they were a very uptempo team that sometimes was all or nothing and put their defense in bad spots from time to time but would make it up with big plays. This team is not like that. While Mayfield has a very prolific backfield with Arnett and Bright (who both are great by the way), OC has a big, young, and talented backfield with Sophomore Will Warren and Sophomore Von Williams. These two have gotten better as the year as went on and they will both be keys to OC winning this one.

I think this game is won and lost upfront, plain and simple. If OC can run the ball and control tempo and put themselves in 3rd down situations they have a chance. Now if OC can't stop the run with Bright and try to load the box then Mayfields WR will have a big night. It's pick your poison. But if OC's much, much improved DLine can't stop the run (like they did for 3 and half quarters last year) then we have a ball game. Either way I can't wait for Friday to get here and see these two teams in action. Regardless of who wins this one I will be cheering that winner on the rest of the way!

Very good analysis Zoneblitz. You are spot on about stopping the run for 3 qts last year. I think that will be the major difference this time around. MF should and will be able to run against the 3-3 and the 4-2 is just asking for Arnett to have a big game. This MF offense is so much more balanced than last season. To me, the game will hinge on MF's ability to stop OCath from running the ball. Nothing against the young qb, he's going to be great, but I just don't see him beating MF with his arm.

Hudl accounts aren't handed out at birth with your social security #? That's how we do it in Mayfield. I assumed that was the standard everywhere.

I agree with zoneblitz, for OC to make it a game they will have to be able to move the ball on the ground. The passing game is good but the run game is what drives the team. OC's D seems suspect on the passing game but pretty solid on the run, should be interesting to see how it plays out.

I will throw Ole South out there too, there over the summer. Good stuff. Very busy, but they got me fed quickly and on my way. Basically, Owensboro is a BBQ heaven. Playing there every other year will sure beat traveling to another rural county in that district with limited food options.

Totally Agree! But Old Hickory is still closer to the Stadium!

I was thinking it was either that or the Football program had a fundraiser and charged parents/fans to come watch and breakdown their opponents on Sunday nights!
