November 13, 20169 yr Maybe so. Of course life was a lot tougher then with many less conveniences. , so by nature, people had to be "tougher". Agreed.
November 13, 20169 yr And we will continue to disagree, and as far as I'm concerned, that's okay. I disagree with you, but I respect your opinion. I get being upset, heck I wasn't happy when Bill Clinton won two terms. wasn't happy that Obama won two. Bit I didn't cry, or need therapy, or riot, or beat people, or even protest. I also didn't claim he wasn't my president. There were no riots or protests when Obama won that I recall. Heck, I'm seeing friendships end over people voting for Trump. So asinine and childish. Your friend is facing a real crisis, a real problem. That's an apple to oranges comparison. Some people paint or have other hobbies to escape everyday life. This is kids with safe rooms with videos of frolicking puppies and play-doh all because of a damn election result. Not even in the same realm. FWIW, prayers for your friend and her husband. We don't know why those kids are seeking out those services, nor how many. Some could be Dream Act kids. Some could be sexual assault survivors. It isn't just an election to some. The same best friend that I mentioned earlier has a daughter that is a sophomore in college. Last year during finals week, her college brought in a bunch of puppies to a room at the student center where students could go to de-stress for a while. It was helpful to her, as not only was she dealing with her father's cancer but had also lost her grandmother to lung cancer a month or so before. Seems like a much better stress reliever than what some may turn to, such as drugs and alcohol. Thanks for your prayers. He is doing okay, but will be on chemo the rest of his life. Just last week they lost a friend to breast cancer that had returned and spread. It was a terrible loss and this lady had suffered for so long. This was hard for them, in many ways.

A lot of the kids I see look white and I'd be willing to bet they're just overly spoiled. I'm glad their daughter got some stress relief and know it's much needed. She truly is under stress. Most of these other kids, IMO, are just soft and spoiled. I mean no offense, I'm just being honest. I'd bet most of them couldn't deal with what I had to growing up and I know the majority of them couldn't have dealt with what my dad had to endure. I just really feel this generation in this country is becoming too entitled and weak. Again, not all of them, but far too many. I hope you can understand my viewpoint, at least to a degree,. I don't expect agreement, just a sense of understanding. I understand yours, I respect yours. I just don't agree. I will continue to pray for your friend and their entire family. May the peace and love of God be upon them. God bless.
November 13, 20169 yr Our president-elect has asked us to come together. Is this how we are going to do that, by pointing out or laughing at people? We can't help how others act, but we can certainly control our own behavior and how we treat those people. Trying to understand the other side's perspective might help. Though I did not vote for president-to-be Trump, I also did not cry when he won. However, I can understand why some might, when I put myself in their shoes. There are people who are scared that they don't have a place in our country any more. There are mothers who are sexual violence victims who feel a mixed message has been sent to their sons. There are minorities that see a celebrating KKK or racist graffiti that has sprung up post-election...and they are worried. As to the main topic, I teach today's youth and I am proud of what I see. I have a former student who graduated from an Ivy League school and then became an Army Ranger. I have another one who brought himself out of poverty to become a leading neuroscientist. Another one is an MD, actively involved with Doctors without Borders. I could go on. College has been part of the experience that has made them strong, caring individuals. Don't tell me that my kids are soft, weak or less than what other generations have been. You're wrong. I don't know what "Make America Great Again" means, because I don't know of a time in which it was greater than it is now. America is diverse and it always has been. I can see that in my own genetics and family tree. What is not going to happen is making everyone the same or getting everyone on board with one line of thought. Maybe what we need to do is to treat others opinions with respect, perhaps even with open mindedness. And yes, that goes for all sides of the table. If your candidate lost and you spend the next four years being an obstructionist or simply complaining, you are every bit as much of the problem. We voted in a president who is supposed to be different than the norm. Maybe we should be different, too. Unfortunately, I only have one like to give this post, so here's a throwback: :thumb:

I just can't rush to judgment on these kids as I don't know their stories nor anything beyond the sensationalism of this article.
November 13, 20169 yr I know that every generation thinks that the subsequent generation is weaker. I just can't rush to judgment on these kids as I don't know their stories nor anything beyond the sensationalism of this article. Fair enough. We can agree to disagree and just move on. As always, I wish the best to you and your family.
November 14, 20169 yr I'm a 34 year old white male. I'm Catholic but not by choice. I voted for Trump. I voted for W the second time around. I also voted for President Obama twice on the premise he'd shake things up. What I would never do is actually, physically sob bc my choice lost. It's a joke, be an adult and move on. It's like an adult who sobs bc they have to get a flu shot. Crying is for funerals, weddings and kids under 12
November 14, 20169 yr If put in the same position, and it got me excused from class when I was in college, I'd have "needed" therapy too.
November 14, 20169 yr If put in the same position, and it got me excused from class when I was in college, I'd have "needed" therapy too. Yeah, I am thinking a lot of kids are just wanting to get out of class. The teachers need to tell the kids that you are free to leave but if you do, I am giving a test today and you will get a zero on it (or at least a quiz)...and if you leave again tomorrow, I will do the same thing. The problem is that most of the teachers probably agree with the kids though.
November 15, 20169 yr I can't even defend this anymore, the stuff I am seeing on TV out of my generation is very disheartening. I really hope they grow up at some point and realize you can't take handouts throughout life. You have to work for what you want.I think that's what they're afraid of and what they're protesting, that they'll have to get jobs.
November 15, 20169 yr Every generation has it's complainers and whiners. This generation is no worse than previous generations in that regard. I'm not trashing, labeling or throwing away a whole generation because of the few. Again, we sound a lot like the old guy on the porch yelling at the kids to stay off our grass. Hey sonny boy, GET OFF OF MY GRASS!!!!! :lol2:
November 15, 20169 yr Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many of the people complaint and bashing the college generation actually have kids that age and have any real clue as two what's really going on outside of a few media stories. I've got two. Neither they or any of their friends rioted, colored, needed safe rooms etc. we sound like a bunch of old guys in the porch chasing kids off our lawn. My parents thought my generation was soft, my grandparents thought my parents were soft. It's got nothing to do with participation trophies ( which have been around for at least 40 years). It's got everything to do with generational differences and changes that occur in each generation that the previous generation doesn't understand because of societal evolution. DLG is a junior at UC, and she thinks they are a bunch of cry babies....BTW she voted for Trump.
November 16, 20169 yr 90% of the young people my young adult kids hung out with are very well adjusted, hard working and best of all, Trump voters! They laugh at these snowflakes.
November 16, 20169 yr I'm troubled by two things, not that anyone necessarily cares. 1) The demonizing of all college students as whiney wusses. 2) People not caring why some are upset, and settling on "Your candidate lost. Suck it up and move on." Some have valid, personal concerns that are based directly off of what president elect Trump said during the campaign and before. These aren't irrational fears. They are from his very words. My hope is that he will be more moderate than what he said. Heck, I have hopes that he is a great president. But some people are fearful for their place in our country and/or messages that are being spread as a result of the election outcome. I just feel that it is my duty as a Christian to not be dismissive. I've probably not done a good job of that in the past, but it is something that I am going to work on.

Unfortunately the majority gets lumped in with the cry-baby minority. Sorry, but I just don't understand why folks get their "panties in a bunch" because one person won over the other. I wasn't a Clinton or Obama fan, but I managed to carry on with my life like it was just another day..........so yeah, suck it up and move on already, but that's just me.
