College Students Helped In Mourning The Election Results

Featured Replies

Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many of the people complaint and bashing the college generation actually have kids that age and have any real clue as two what's really going on outside of a few media stories. I've got two. Neither they or any of their friends rioted, colored, needed safe rooms etc. we sound like a bunch of old guys in the porch chasing kids off our lawn. My parents thought my generation was soft, my grandparents thought my parents were soft. It's got nothing to do with participation trophies ( which have been around for at least 40 years). It's got everything to do with generational differences and changes that occur in each generation that the previous generation doesn't understand because of societal evolution.

ignoring will stop it quicker than almost any method (I am talking the media), not happening by either liberal or conservative leaning outlets. Acting violent is not childish as some have said it's criminal. Huge difference.

Law enforcement should not ignore crime, that should go without saying.

It would held quite a bit if Hillary would hold a press conference and tell them to go home and quit acting like spoiled children. Tell them it was a fair election and she lost.

I have one in college. He has not needed a crying room, etc. Then again, he voted for Trump. He would not have needed these if Hillary had won.

He said he has seen students despondent and crying because Trump won.

You can claim that generation we see on TV is not soft. I would disagree. As a veteran, if that is what we have to look forward to, to step up and protect our nation, we are in serious trouble.

We're not talking about the ones that have been brought up with coping skills. You've obviously raised your kids right. Mine are a little older than these kids, but they're much better adjusted than the college kids we're talking about. Heck, my 4 and 1 1/2 year old grandchildren are better adjusted than these kids are. What's changed in these particular kids is they've been brought up thinking they're special, everyone's a winner and they have a huge sense of entitlement. They are extremely ill-prepared for life. To melt down, throw temper tantrums and act as childish as they have just because a candidate they didn't like won is reflective of what I just said.

Our president-elect has asked us to come together. Is this how we are going to do that, by pointing out or laughing at people? We can't help how others act, but we can certainly control our own behavior and how we treat those people. Trying to understand the other side's perspective might help.

Though I did not vote for president-to-be Trump, I also did not cry when he won. However, I can understand why some might, when I put myself in their shoes. There are people who are scared that they don't have a place in our country any more. There are mothers who are sexual violence victims who feel a mixed message has been sent to their sons. There are minorities that see a celebrating KKK or racist graffiti that has sprung up post-election...and they are worried.

As to the main topic, I teach today's youth and I am proud of what I see. I have a former student who graduated from an Ivy League school and then became an Army Ranger. I have another one who brought himself out of poverty to become a leading neuroscientist. Another one is an MD, actively involved with Doctors without Borders. I could go on. College has been part of the experience that has made them strong, caring individuals. Don't tell me that my kids are soft, weak or less than what other generations have been. You're wrong.

I don't know what "Make America Great Again" means, because I don't know of a time in which it was greater than it is now. America is diverse and it always has been. I can see that in my own genetics and family tree. What is not going to happen is making everyone the same or getting everyone on board with one line of thought. Maybe what we need to do is to treat others opinions with respect, perhaps even with open mindedness. And yes, that goes for all sides of the table. If your candidate lost and you spend the next four years being an obstructionist or simply complaining, you are every bit as much of the problem.

We voted in a president who is supposed to be different than the norm. Maybe we should be different, too.

^ I'm sorry, but the kids that are supposed to be adults are acting ridiculous. I think back to the kids of similar age to these kids that had to storm the beaches of Normandy and look at this pathetic display of temper tantrums and can't think of calling them anything but soft. We're not talking about all kids of this age group, just the ones melting down over a damn election. What in the world are they going to do when real challenges hit them? God forbid we ever get invaded by another country because this group (not our fine young men and women serving) will quake in their shoes and will have no will to fight. They should be ashamed of their actions and so should we. Sorry, TB&G, this is just one of those areas you and I completely disagree.

Every generation has it's complainers and whiners. This generation is no worse than previous generations in that regard. I'm not trashing, labeling or throwing away a whole generation because of the few.

Again, we sound a lot like the old guy on the porch yelling at the kids to stay off our grass.

Yeah, we certainly disagree. People were upset about the last election, too. Temper tantrums this election and racist epitaphs the last election...both are the fringe, not the norm. I simply will not paint with the broad brush that is handed to me. I have listened to those who feel personally effected and I can understand their emotion.

Btw, my best friend is a staunch republican. I'm not sure if she ended up voting for Trump or not. I haven't asked and it doesn't matter to me. What I do know is that she escapes from her husband's issues from a second bout with liver cancer through coloring. It may seem juvenile to some, but it is actually becoming a more popular adult activity. Everyone deals with stress differently. Some ways are healthier than others.

Neither am I but I will ridicule the ones acting like they're in pre-school. And I've never seen a generation with this many little crybabies that are this unprepared for real life.

My grandparents and great aunts/uncles said the same thing about my generation. I'm guessing this generation will say the same thing about their grandchildren.

Barefoot uphill both ways.

It's a good way to meet girls/boys------------transgendered or not.

Our generation was softer than theirs, that's not debatable IMO. This generation, at least a good portion of them are the softest in my lifetime or my grandparents.

And we will continue to disagree, and as far as I'm concerned, that's okay. I disagree with you, but I respect your opinion. I get being upset, heck I wasn't happy when Bill Clinton won two terms. wasn't happy that Obama won two. Bit I didn't cry, or need therapy, or riot, or beat people, or even protest. I also didn't claim he wasn't my president. There were no riots or protests when Obama won that I recall. Heck, I'm seeing friendships end over people voting for Trump. So asinine and childish.

Your friend is facing a real crisis, a real problem. That's an apple to oranges comparison. Some people paint or have other hobbies to escape everyday life. This is kids with safe rooms with videos of frolicking puppies and play-doh all because of a damn election result. Not even in the same realm.

FWIW, prayers for your friend and her husband.

Maybe so. Of course life was a lot tougher then with many less conveniences. , so by nature, people had to be "tougher".
