I think he can do everything he wants to accomplish. I'm a conservative and agree with quite a few of the things on Trump's agenda. But man you are just denying the facts of Trumps voting pool. He was voted in by the white, uneducated male. Where do educated, diverse groups of people congregate? Cities and the surrounding suburbs. What counties did Hillary win nationwide? The cities and surrounding suburbs. There are plenty of white, black, male, female, educated people in these areas too, but they were so put off by Trump's rhetoric that they couldn't vote for him. They have friends who are black, hispanic, gay, muslim, etc. and they can't help but think about them when Trump said the things he said.

If you want to call them hard working blue collar white males, then fine. Education is not about going to college. You can be educated by learning a trade or operating large equipment. Construction workers are educated by learning how to build, etc. College educated doesn't mean smarter. In fact, most of the most ignorant, out of touch, closed minded people I know are college educated.

 

The main stream media and others are calling these people "uneducated, white males" as an insult. The fact is, these are hard working Americans who want a job instead of a government hand out!

My neighbor the uneducated white auto mechanic of 25 years said that if he is so uneducated let the smart liberals fix their own cars then. See how smart they are when they don't even know how to check the oil. A college education is not always the answer. You can make very good money in the trades industry. The college guys better not forget who gets the world working, building, moving, growing, and fixed when broken, while they are sitting in their ivory tower of judgement. I proudly put on my workboots every morning to support my family. Thanks to Trump others may have the opportunity to do so as well that doesn't exist at this moment because of our globalism view and trade agreements.

That's a good question, one I have no answer for. He didn't appeal to me, so I went with an independent. He did somehow do what I saw as impossible. I'm as confused as you.

I think there was a very interesting divide for this election. People who were so anti government that they wanted an outsider in there no matter what his policies were. I'll never understand that logic because what a candidate believes holds way more value to me than how long he/ she has been in politics. To here some GOPers say they would have voted for Bernie if he was running against a few of the republican noms is simply jaw dropping. Somehow Bernie and Trump are viewed as outsiders and thus similar. That makes zero sense, all that means is you want change for the sake of change with no regard to right or wrong.

I agree. There is nothing honest about socialists. Candidates like Bernie have some appeal because he seemed to be far more truthful than either Hillary or Trump, but the bottom line is that socialists like him exploit the bottom feeders of society by feeding their envy of what the productive members of society have and promising to forcefully steal from the haves to give to the have-nots.

 

Truthfulness is an admirable trait in a politician, but it does not excuse thievery by socialists, communists, and those who defy philosophical categorization but simply buy votes with other people's money in their quest for power.

When he retired, he was responsible for maintaining the entire company's inventory of mining equipment and had college educated mechanical, mining, and electrical engineers reporting to him.

 

One of the best leaders who I ever worked with was a high school dropout that was a section foreman for the same coal company. His ability to motivate and his team, most of which had far more experience than himself, was nothing short of amazing. Some human characteristics cannot be taught in a classroom, nor can they be appreciated until you experience them first hand.

 

Many of the biggest buffoons that I have ever been around held advanced degrees. Some of them now teach or supervise those who teach.

 

I never judge people based on their formal education. To me, the ability to reason and think is unrelated to diplomas and degrees. The drive to learn throughout one's life and apply what one learns to solve problems is far more important. Most schools, regardless of level, do not foster an attitude that learning should be a lifelong pursuit. Too many people consider a piece of paper to be the conclusion of their education, instead of a milestone along a lifelong journey.

It's a very unattractive feature of the left these days -- though that sort of urban/suburban elitism knows no party lines. We've all got messes in our house and this type of thinking is ours.

 

In a story similar to yours, one of the sharpest guys I know is a union pipefitter with a high school education. But when it comes to fixing a problem, the guy has an amazing ability to figure it out. Cars, plumbing, electrical work... heck, the guy at age 50 taught himself how to open up and replace the hardware components of his computer.

 

Like the guy said in the video bluegrasscard posted above, a lot of this 21st century left thinks "We won th culture wars, so now we must be right about everything else and everyone who disagrees with us is some kind of ignorant slob."

 

It's time for real debate. It's time to face the problems we face in our political system. It's time to change the way we engage people.

Some are having trouble following this thread. I did not need to start a thread to say I am not a fan of Mr Trump.

I totally agree we all rationalize. If you voted for Trump, you had to overlook a lot of things that are distasteful to say the least. If you voted for HRC, you had to overlook a lot of things that are distasteful to say the least. Everyone had to make a decision on which person would be better for the country in their opinion and then vote for that person. He won. She lost. And it was incredibly close because our country is divided and will remain divided for a long time...no matter which candidate won. It is really that simple...

Nice try Clyde. Sorry we didn't get anyone to answer your questions. A couple people answered with "she is worse" and maybe it is that simple. It is a morals question you asked and maybe all those Trumpeteers simply believe they chose the better devil.

 

Maybe another thread with the same first post and a different title like "Conservatives for Trump - Please Explain" will generate more insight. I doubt it though. It has been very clear for several years how much disdain everyone has for Washington. Trump positioned himself as a huge up yours vote to Washington. So in spite of his moral character being on par with conservatives' most despised, immoral politician ever - Bill Clinton - the conservatives drank the kool aid and said, chew on this Washington.
