Pretty staggering stats 2C. What a group!!

Fans of EKY football remembers names like Floyd Branham (Middlesboro) and John Rader (Breathitt County) when you think of the all-time best Defensive players.

 

I have a feeling Ray Horton will end up in that same breathe as people discuss them 10 years down the road.

 

Ray has just been one of those truly special treats over his career and Friday was another installment of how Ray's legend had grown. He was everywhere against JC and was unblockable at times. I still don't think I have ever seen a better HS DT in the State of KY with my own eyes at stopping the run.

 

You don't replace a RayQuan Horton, but do keep an eye out on Freshman Jacob Baisden the next few years. I am not sure he can get to Horton's level of dominance, but his ceiling is very high.

Agree on both fronts. IMO, Ray Horton is the single best defensive player I've witnessed in Eastern Kentucky in the last 35+ years. Against JC he was unblockable...and completely took the game over inside the red zone on two different occasions.

 

Jacob Baisden has all the tools to be a stud. Great Kid. Mild mannered. He doesn't yet understand just how strong he is. He is also quick on quick for someone his size

Both JC and Ashland dropped down to 4A after the 2010 season. Nonetheless, what this group of Seniors have achieved thus far is truly incredible. Best wishes to the men from Pond Creek the rest of the way. You all have represented our area during this time with pride, dignity and class.

I know Sacks are not an officially tracked stat as far as the KHSAA record books go but I would love to know what Rays final sack count was. I know at one point he was averaging 1 sack per game or something crazy like that.
