I think 6-4 would be most likely. Though, I could see anywhere from 5-5 to 7-3

I think they lose to Brentwood and Male definitely. Should beat St. X, Ensworth, and Lafayette in really close games. One of these could go the other way. Definitely beat PRP, J-Town, Eastern, Seneca, & Ballard.

No matter how they felt about Dale, I think that if local coaches thought they could have beat Dale they would have scheduled him. What is your take?

 

Dale had asked Newport to play back in 2005, when Newport had arguably one of their best teams ever assembled, but turned it down.

Well maybe that was his opinion, but the schedules over the years sure don't scream "national rankings". It screams I'm trying to play the best schedule I can to prepare me for the playoffs. National recognition would have to be a lot stiffer schedule than they were playing and my guess Dale knew that. Trinity was and does play a schedule that can get you National recognition. Please show me an HHS schedule that would have even come close to that.

They were I believe 2007 we were ranked 21st nationally and in 2009 we finished the season ranked 3rd nationally.

Have no idea. But regardless, that does nothing to prove the statement that all dale was interested in was national rankings! Just because they were ranked nationally doesn't mean the schedule was set up to acheive that! So because they played Elder, you're saying that proves all he was interested in was national ranking??? C'mon. You can't be serious. In several of those years, Elder wasn't even the best team in Cincy!

 

And you don't comment on the other thing I said about traveling all over KY to play teams. What in the world did that have to do for national rankings??

 

Again, show me the HHS schedule supports your comment that Dale was only concerned with national rankings. Show me which one was set up specifically to support you allegation.

 

Just because someone ranked then nationally doesn't mean that was the goal of the coach. The evidence doesn't support your story.

It is a known fact that Dale was not well liked if at all by a good portion of the Northern Kentucky coaches. That as much as anything was why there were not many "local" teams on the schedule. Many of those bridges were burned along the way, but not all of them occurred on a football field.

Great post, Dale was all about preparing for the playoffs. The talent or lack there of in NKY during those years would not have benefited for the long haul.

I would say it was probably a combination of both. Teams probably knew they weren't going to win so they didn't want to play and also Dale probably wanted to try for some better competition. Even though as you mentioned some of those teams ended up not being very competitive anyways.

I think more goes into scheduling than most of us even know about. You don't build a schedule to please fans, you build it to prepare your team for a state championship run. However, you also don't want to run your team through a meat grinder and end up with half your team injured by the time playoffs come around.

 

I think each team has games on their schedule where they know they will benefit from. Either benefit them as far as preparing them for a team they may face in the playoffs, or benefit them by knowing you are going to score enough in the first half that will allow your starters some much needed rest.

 

I am not going to claim that anyone ducked Highlands. Anyone that claims team A is ducking team B is claiming so based on virtually no evidence. However, I don't think Dale saw any real motivation to playing the teams you mentioned, when there were teams on the schedule that were as good, if not better than the ones already on the schedule.
