You have zero idea what you are talking about. Dale had no interest in making long road trips to play teams he knew he would beat, but at the end of the day those teams stepped up to the plate when most locals (for whatever reason) wouldn't.

See, this is where you have me pegged completely wrong. I love seeing NKY 6A becoming relevant again. I love that they are raising their game and competing again. I love that HHS has teams that will play them and compete with them now. I think it makes for a more healthy NKY football environment like we had years ago. Time will tell if this uptick in NKY 6A is really an uptick or just a down tick in some other schools. But we really don't know how good our 6A teams are. And that not a mean thing. We all waited for years for some of the 6A schools to measure themselves against good competition. Some teams did do it over the years and it didn't turn out well for them. (and I'm not talking about playing HHS) And now that some competition is finally on the schedule, that good comp is facing a couple of challenging years. (now I am talking about HHS) So unfortunately because there is no other good competition on the schedules to measure against, we still don't know how good NKY 6A is. Because what we thought would be good tests, have turned out to not be a good measuring stick. That's not a shot at anyone or any school. It just didn't turn out the way we all wanted to see it turn out. Even if the SK/Ryle game is the best game of the century, we still won't know if either team is actually "really good". Because we have no true tests for either outside of playing each other. And until we determine if either team is "good", then them playing each other really tells us nothing.

 

However, creating "eras" based on beating a single team (twice) in a lower division tells me all I need to know.

Dale wanted the national ranking that's why he schedule teams outside of NKY, the arrogance that some of you not all of show by saying NKY teams wouldn't play HHS is unreal.

He was after national ranking scheduling Warren Central, Paducah, Scott Co, Mason Co, John Hardin, Bryan Station, Boyle Co, Western, Manual, Eastern (just to name a few) to get national rankings. Or was it because no one would play them.

 

Everyone looks at the one Marquee game they would play (for better competition to challenge themselves) and assumes Dale was looking for National exposure. Playing one big game is not looking for national exposure.

I don't make or sign game contracts, so this is only supposition. But the perception Highlands ran the score up on teams in the late 90's was out there and, to some degree, probably affected scheduling.

Well maybe that was his opinion, but the schedules over the years sure don't scream "national rankings". It screams I'm trying to play the best schedule I can to prepare me for the playoffs. National recognition would have to be a lot stiffer schedule than they were playing and my guess Dale knew that. Trinity was and does play a schedule that can get you National recognition. Please show me an HHS schedule that would have even come close to that.

I guess it was a delayed reaction. Schools were upset with Dale for whatever he did or didn't do in the late 90's and they stopped scheduling him 10+ years later. I still don't think it makes sense and don't believe it. I think beating a guy you don't like would bring much joy.

Not as much this year, but yes, in the past when you add Indy Cathedral and a GCL team. You can only play so many out of state teams in a 10 game season.

 

But again, my challenge was show me HHS' national contention schedule that shows anyone in anyway that Dale was concerned with national recognition.

 

Heck, even that schedule above that we agree is not a national recognition schedule is better than the Birds played in those years!
