August 20, 201610 yr I rarely listen to radio broadcasts anymore since our local station dropped the Reds a few years ago and since most of the games are on the tube. Brantley was woeful starting but has improved a lot. I know I am in the minority here, but I don't mind Welsh at all. I think he offers up some pretty interesting insight( at times). Thumbs up. George Grande... I can almost nail how many times he will say certain catch phrases during a game. (Get em' on, get em' over, get em' in...) Get him OFF! I will say he and Welsh always seemed to enjoy working together. Anyone tired of Marty and Thom? How about the Jim's- Kelch and Day?

I can deal with Chris Welsh when he is not working with George, (Mr. nickname), Grande. He gives some informative stuff occassionally. I can't stand stand Grande and Thom Brennaman. George likes to make you think he knows all the players past and present and uses their nicknames like they are old buds. George and Thom both try to impress you with how much useless information they can throw your way, and if you're lucky they'll only say it once during the broadcast. George loves to give you a scoring summary over and over and over during the broadcast like you might have forgotten how the game has developed. Thom is Mr. Dramatic, everyyyyything is high drama with him. Kind of reminds me of my youngest granddaughter when she was a few years younger. I remember one radio broadcast with Marty and Thom together when Marty had to laugh at Thom after something he said. Kelsch is just bad imo. I honestly don't mind Jim Day though he is a bit dry but he at least lets you watch the game without having to constantly tell you what's going on. If I wanted somebody to tell me what I'm already watching all the time I could just listen to Marty and not watch the game. I love the cowboy but he has his flaws on the radio. Too often you have no idea what just happened and he leaves you wondering for a few minutes before he tells you anything. Marty is still the best. If you don't believe it all you have to do is listen to the games on Sirius/XM and try to tolerate the other teams announcers when the Reds are on the road. There are some really bad ones.

Good analysis. As dry and uninspiring as Kelch is, he does seem to be an encyclopedia of baseball history. Problem is, he's about as much fun as reading an encyclopedia. Has Marty and Welsh ever worked together? Seems like they have.
August 20, 201610 yr I've liked him ever since we got Seaver for him. :lol2: Seriously though, I think he is pretty good. Actually, I preferred Pee Wee Reese and Ed Kennedy.
August 21, 201610 yr I like Doug Flynn. When I was in middle school, I went to a baseball camp he hosted and won camp MVP. I was supposed to get a glove, but they only had kids sizes and none of them fit. He took down my information and said it would be in the mail. 20+ years later, it still hasn't arrived! So I'm putting him in the "don't like" crew! :lol2:
August 21, 201610 yr I like both Marty and Thom and Brantley. I always like Grande too. I guess the main one I didn't like was Welsh.
August 21, 201610 yr I know some can't stand him, but give me Sean Casey everynight. Not just when Pittsburgh is involved.
August 22, 201610 yr I thought Flynn was the absolute worst I've ever heard until Browning did a three game set earlier this year. Awful. Not a fan of Grande and Kelch is so so as is Thom. I like Welsh and Brantley when they are talking specifics or mechanics of pitching. Marry is arrogant, not someone I'd ever sit down with for a beer. But if I hit a game winning jack, he's who I want making the call. He's the best at big calls.
August 22, 201610 yr I love George Grande. He is the old school announcer that helps sell the game of baseball. I love his enthusiasm. I don't need someone losing their mind when a player makes a bonehead play. Plus au met George and he's as nice as they come.
August 22, 201610 yr I know some can't stand him, but give me Sean Casey everynight. Not just when Pittsburgh is involved. Put me in the can't stand department. He talks like a big kid that's had way too much Mountain Dew. Too hyped.
August 22, 201610 yr The only one that really irritates me is Thom. He makes way too many clearly wrong statements. He always seems to have something he is whining about. The thing I dislike the most in any announcer or talk show person is being unprepared. Thom often seems unprepared. Grande is fine except the first name fetish. It bugs me that he calls all the players by first name and it comes across as unprofessional to me. Kelch ... eh, just a blah. Nothing to like or dislike. Brantley is good. Welsh is ok. He has his good moments. Marty is a hall of famer so even as he slips a little as he ages, he is still lights out for me. The best announcer in Cincinnati sports is without a doubt Dan Hoard. If there is anyone who is capable of being a successor to the Vin Scully fans, Dan is the man. No one outprepares Dan. No one brings more info to a broadcast than Dan.
