Reds' Announcers- Who Do You Like , Who Do You Hate ?

Featured Replies

The only one that really irritates me is Thom. He makes way too many clearly wrong statements. He always seems to have something he is whining about. The thing I dislike the most in any announcer or talk show person is being unprepared. Thom often seems unprepared.

Grande is fine except the first name fetish. It bugs me that he calls all the players by first name and it comes across as unprofessional to me.

Kelch ... eh, just a blah. Nothing to like or dislike.

Brantley is good. Welsh is ok. He has his good moments. Marty is a hall of famer so even as he slips a little as he ages, he is still lights out for me.

The best announcer in Cincinnati sports is without a doubt Dan Hoard. If there is anyone who is capable of being a successor to the Vin Scully fans, Dan is the man. No one outprepares Dan. No one brings more info to a broadcast than Dan.

I like him a lot also except for when he calls AJ by his full name on every touchdown pass. I hate pre meditated calls.

I can't listen to Reds games on the radio anymore because of how bad Marty has gotten. He's terrible.

I'm not really a fan of Thom's, but he's better than para-lip and Grande. I do enjoy Jim Day.

Also agree about Dan Hoard. That guy is as good as it gets.

I love George Grande.

He is the old school announcer that helps sell the game of baseball. I love his enthusiasm. I don't need someone losing their mind when a player makes a bonehead play.

Plus au met George and he's as nice as they come.

Never met him but I would have guessed that he is a very nice man. He and Welsh seem to really work well together.

Kinda the same here.

And it's not like a mute button on the radio is gonna do us much good.

Like I said, our local radio station no longer covers the Reds so I rarely, if ever, get a chance to listen to Marty. Papa or Mustang, what makes Marty so bad now?

He takes himself way too seriously. He's become a caricature of himself. Just a bitter old man.

None are great, some are not very good. Its time for Marty to hang it up (its been time for about a decade or so.) Brantley is ok, he at least brings a players prospective. Kelsh is probably the best at calling a game, his voice is just not appealing. The simple fact that night in night out you dont know who is going to be on the radio has made me tune out over the years.

LOVE Marty, calls it like he sees it, refreshing. If the player makes a bonehead play, he calls them on it.

Cannot stand Hoard. The delivery is just too monotone. I'll take Paul Keels.

Thank you sir. That's kinda what I figured. I bet Marty is a hard person to be around . He and Joe gave me many wonderful years of memories and I thank him for that. I spent many summer nights outside on the porch listening to M&J call the games.

Brantly is the only one that I LIKE. I'm okay with Welsh and Thom Brennaman. Marty gets on my nerves, so does Jim Day, although not as much as Marty does. The others are just boring if you ask me.

I will say, I'm one of the few who likes when Sean Casey is in on a broadcast.

That is the first time I've ever heard that opinion, either on BGP, or around town.

I think Dan is great as a broadcaster and 5x that as a person.

I really like Hoard as well. I can't honestly think of a time that I heard him broadcast a Reds game, but I've always liked all of his other broadcasts that I've heard.

Just an opinion, there's trillions of 'em. I'm sure he's a great guy, just don't care for his delivery.

A little bit of Casey goes a LONG way. Good guy, just not a polished announcer.
