It's the possibility of 3-4 losses is the difference. When Highlands plays other NKY teams now those teams aren't expecting to lose and in fact many will think they can win.

 

Any NKY team not named Covcath (in a great year) 5-10 years ago if they believed this, weren't honest with themselves.

Whatever makes you sleep better at night. Weren't the birds a 4a school when they were destroying 5a and 6a schools in NKY?

 

Its funny these last two years watching all the haters come out and pour it on. Get your shots in now! About 2 years ago, we told you about two down years that were coming. And that meaning that we just didn't feel our depth was going to be as deep as the recent past. And that proved to be true against all the 6a schools they played last year. Is it disappointing not to win state every year, yes. Do we have extremely high expectation in the Fort? Yes! Do some consider it a down year to only go to the semis? Yes! But history tells us they will be back. Upcoming classes also start to support that prediction. So I'm confident that it will happen and the haters will return to their burrows.

 

This is not an arrogant Bluebird statement, but I actually enjoy these years some. I don't have boys there, so I don't have the skin in the game like some others. If I did, I would definitely want them to win state every year they are there. But I'll be honest, their games were boring to watch for many years in a row. Again, not arrogance. As a football fan, l like watching a competitive game. Not going to lie...I'm a huge Bluebird fan. But there were many times I'd skip the Birds games and go to other schools games to see a competitive game. So I like watching them have to dig in to compete in every game. I like seeing them deal with a little adversity and come together rather than the first team being in street clothes by halftime in more than half their games.

 

That team last year could have very easliy turned in theirs equipment half way through the season and thrown in the towel. I actually enjoyed watching them evolve...as frustrating as it was in the middle!

 

This team will also be fun to watch and we will support them and they wear blue and white, so no matter what happens, they will fight you til the end.

The good Highlands teams always competed against the Ohio powerhouses. This highlands team got destroyed against them when they all played JV a couple years ago. 30+ Elder St.X Trinity. Most people who watch football know this is going to be a down year. Highlands Trinity Mayfield NCC BG are all state title game or it is a down year.

I will go ahead an say this I predict a win over Cooper next. Maybe some of those nky 6A powerhouses should scrimmage a cincy st x or trinity. I have seen Highlands win state with the same style team. But take your shots . JOAT these posters been waiting there whole lifes to bash the birds. New year good scrimmage against a d1 Cincy school who has d1 players in there lineups constantly.

HHS may win that game but it won't be a running clock win if they do win. If Cooper does win then it will be another down year for HHS. Some HHS fans knew what they had last year and never touted the birds to be anything other than what they were. Others however thought they were better than they actually were. Everyone knew going into the season that the 2nd half of their schedule was pretty easy and knew if the Birds were to do anything they had to win their first half of the schedule which they didn't. The second half was a cake walk and too many fans actually thought they were improving enough to win state. It was never gonna happen last year.

 

This year if they think they can win state then they better not only beat the Coopers of the world but better beat SK and Ryle also. So don't put all your eggs in the Cooper game because if they can't beat Cooper who does have some players that could give HHS a long night, then they are in for another long season.

You don't have to worry about who Cooper will focus on. They focus on whoever is in their schedule. Cooper also has never come out stating they will win it all every year such as HHS fans do

I don't have a dog in the fight. I respect both programs. But until Cooper flat out dominates year in and year out with state titles, they can't be mentioned in the same sentence as Highlands. Also, they're 0-1 against Cooper, let's not make it sound like they've played 10 times and never beat em.

A state semi-final appearance is what many many many schools in Kentucky would dream of, including yours. As you said in another post, they played who was on their schedule and I believe you were one that said they would lose to CovCath and would get running clocked by Pulaski County, neither of which happened by the way.
