Ncc's Schneider in favor of 6 class system?

Featured Replies

I haven't ever thought about it. However, I really don't think that the public private split was ever seriously considered a viable option by the Board of Control.

I believe its going to happen sometime down the road. Its just a matter of when it happens.

It may. The fact of the matter is that there are many more schools across the state that support it than don't. However, the ones that don't know how to make a lot of noise. My personal opinion falls under the category to be the best, you must beat the best.

I have waited until this is final and now I will make my statement. It just means that instead of 2 or 3 State Champions a year we will now have an opportunity for 5 out of 6. I just think everyone is set in their ways they don't like change. This is a big change and will take a little time to get use to it. I looked over it again and think it will just work out fine. Just that Northern Kentucky will still dominate in several classes as always. Again this is just one mans opinion. JD

The six class system is being put in place largely due to the disparity found currently at the A level. NCC will have a much more difficult time winning a championship at the new AA level. Lets face fact. If Beechwood was interested in real competition, they would move up themselves. Bob has never conducted himself with anything other than class his entire career. FYI I don't think that his current non-district schedule shows that he is afraid to play Beechwood.

Maybe it doesn't have anything to do with Beechwood (99.9% sure that it doesn't)

But what in the world would possess you to say that Beechwood isn't interested in real competition? From someone with "Camels" in their name (with that big win over Bourbon County last week) you sure sound like you have never looked at Beechwoods schedule before . . . . . . . . . .

That may be one of the silliest things I have ever heard.

My point simply was that Bob is not trying to get away from Beechwood by going to six classes. The point I was making about Beechwood is that they should have attempted to move up, just like many of the more competetive schools in the state have chosen to do. Their competition has moved to AA. This change was made largely to eliminate disparity at the A level. They have remained in a class where them and Mayfield are likely to be in the finals almost every year. That is not challenging your program. Remember, the option to move up was there. They didn't apply for it.

Actually, the only compeition that left was NCC and to a certain extent--Danville.

That is replaced with Louisville Holy Cross.

And the last time I checked--Mayfield has owned the Beechwood series.

I have a better idea of where you are coming from now--I just don't agree. Again--Beechwoods numbers warrant being in A. Not AA or AAA or anything else. I am sure that NCC could have found better compeition moving up as well (they have more kids for enrollment--and they definitely have more kids playing football).

I am not going to lie . . . . . some of the Beechwood arguments are starting to point in the direction of Beechwood not wanting to play NCC or not wanting to play better competition. No one has any factual proof that points in that direction.

I would guarantee that Beechwood ends up with a tougher schedule than the vast majority of AA teams--and probably AAA, AAAA and AAAAA teams next year. Moving up to keep a rivalry with one team that has only recently had success against the red/white tigers speaks to a move that isn't well thought out.

I think that you are getting a bit defensive. Everyone knows Beechwood's past. You cannot play the "no respect" card. Everyone knows that Beechwood would compete well in AA and probably win multiple championships there. 94 Camels response was in defense to his proposal that perhaps the 'Breds moved up to get away from Beechwood. 94Camel is just asking what most of us are wondering, why wouldn't Beechwood move up? I agree, they are entitled to stay where their enrollment places them, the competition just looks tougher in AA.

I don't really think so....there are some serious cash cows in the private sector.

I had always heard that all the NKY coaches were in favor of leaving the system intact with 4 classes. After reading the KY post article, I get the impression that Schneider favored the 6 classes. I think it's because he wants to get away from having to go through Beechwood.

Yeah that is exactly it:rolleyes:

If Coach Schneider wanted to get away from Beechwood then why hasn't he moved up to 2A until being forced too...for one I am sad to see the Big Four of Mayfield, Danville, NCC, and Beechwood get split up as no matter which two made it to Louisville you were normally going to see one of the best state title games regardless of class...last year being an exception of course

In the old system in place today, you are not allowed to "play up" it wasn't an option.

Mayfield and Beechwood will not meet in the finals unless they continue to tweek the playoff system as the Big 3 next year in Class A...Mayfield, Beechwood and Holy Cross would all meet in the western portion of the playoffs...once again that is based on what they do as far as the playoffs are concerened and if they still do the blind draw...but as of right now Mayfield and Holy Cross would meet in the REGIONALS....and the winner would then play Beechwood in the semi-finals and not finals...but once again this could change allowing Mayfield and Beechwood to play in the finals...but the way it is this year it would be in the semi-finals causing someone else to come out of Region 3 or 4.

I am not completly up to date on the old "play up" rule, but I do know that at Mayfield we played up in Class 2A for a long time with 1A enrollment and the only reason we dropped was because we had a hard time finding people that would play us.

I agree--I am very defensive--simply because I know the difference between fact and speculation in regard to this situation.

For the record--I don't agree with free thinker. But to be honest--I don't care. The enrollment figures say that NCC should be AA--fine by me.

But your "competition" theory holds no weight with me--here is why--I am sure that NCC would have to play tougher teams if they moved up to AAA . . . . just like you say that there is better competition for Beechwood in AA . . . what is the difference between those 2 options: ZERO. Nothing, Nada . . . . . .

As far as the "no-respect" theory goes--right now--I would say that people MAY NOT HAVE SAID IT--BUT THEY ARE POINTING TO THE FACT THAT BEECHWOOD IS SCARED OF AA COMPETITION.

I have laid out numerous reasons why moving up isn't the right thing for Beechwood right now. I don't know how many more times I have to explain it. I know enough about the situation to feel okay about putting something on here.

This entire subject drives me nuts because of the way people are trying to spin things.

Actually the KHSAA mandated that nobody plays up starting with the 1995 season (at least I think that was the year). That was when Mayfield dropped back 1A. It may have been OK with them, but they didn't have a choice and it wasn't just a voluntary move.

I haven't ever thought about it. However, I really don't think that the public private split was ever seriously considered a viable option by the Board of Control.

It wasn't just the Board of Control. The statements made by the State Board of Education (which has the final say) indicated they were totally against the idea. While no one can predict what may happen in the future, I would bet against if ever, and I mean ever, happening.
