August 2, 201610 yr What makes a great song? A song will come on and people will say, "Oh, great tune. Turn it up." Does familiarity make it great? If you are not familiar with a great song and you heard it for the first time, would you say it is great?

August 2, 201610 yr Drugs are bad, mkay?! Maybe so, but drugs made The Beatles' music exponentially better. I'll take everything from "Rubber Soul" on over all the bubble-gum stuff they did before that album. Their dabbling in psychedelics made that transformation possible. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" doesn't happen without drugs, and as a result, since that album inspired these next two, neither does "Pet Sounds" by The Beach Boys or "The Who Sell Out" by The Who. Only three of the greatest rock albums ever, the first two considered No. 1 and No. 2.

August 4, 201610 yr I'd probably remove, "The One" by Gary Allen. More for sentimental reasons than it not being a good song.
