UKMustangFan Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Got to wondering about this today....Regardless of who wins are we looking at a one-term President? I tend to think we are, and it has nothing to do with how successful or unsuccessful the winner may end up being. Trump will be 74 years old come the 2020 election, and Hillary will be just behind him at 73 years old. Am I the only one that thinks the idea of a 78 or 77 year old President isn't the best thing for our country? The office of the Presidency really ages everyone who takes it on. I can only imagine how it will treat someone as old as both Trump and Hillary are.
HammerTime Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I think they will both be dumpster fires so yes.
Jumper_Dad Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Not to be morbid but it's been over 50 years since a President died in office. Whether natural or unnatural causes it's going to happen again at some point. 4 have died of Natural Causes and 4 have been assassinated in office.
DragonFire Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Reagan was pushing 80 I think when his terms ended Reagan was 78 when he left office, so 70 when he went in. Trump would barely surpass him as the oldest ever to take office, while Hillary would be barely in second.
DragonFire Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Aside from Reagan, Eisenhower and Andrew Jackson are the other presidents elected after age 60 that served two terms (Truman took over most of FDR's last term, but was neither elected for, nor served two full terms). Two of the 10 presidents that took office initially after turning 60 died in office - William Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor. Lyndon Johnson was the last president to die before reaching the age of 81 (died at 64). Aside from him and Kennedy (who was assassinated), every person who served as president since FDR, lived to be at least 78. That includes 7 men who are either currently living and past that age or died after that age. I think there's a pretty good track record for longevity, and I'd be surprised if either Trump or Hillary were to die in office, but I suppose you never know.
TheDeuce Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Either one will be a one-term President. Hopefully.
formerkywrestler Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Got to wondering about this today....Regardless of who wins are we looking at a one-term President?Gary Johnson will easily win re-election. Only the next time it won't be the House of Reps electing him.
se7ens Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 HRC would have history against her. The last time a party kept the presidency longer than 12 years was with FDR and Truman. That was the only time the Dems have done that.
PurplePride92 Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I'm in the crowd that I think both will be one term presidents.

If I could edit this I would, but this was meant to read "since FDR". Whoops.
Hellcats Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Both parties are trying to fit multiple personalities in. The Dems may have fewer with the moderates and the Bernie wing. The Republicans are trying to wrangle in the libertarians, the tea party, the evangelicals, the GOP, and whatever Trump is. As a party the Dems are better off. Hillary has to hope that Republicans stay in disarray to win two elections. I would think Priebus would be fired and they would spend the next 4 years getting everybody lockstep. If that happens she will be one term. Trump will be one term. He may not make it out primaries next go around.
All In Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Hilary will most likely be two terms, unless there is a younger Bernie Sanders type out there in 4 years to upset her. People(Democrats and those in doubt) are voting that Party and always will. Most Democrats don't even like her, but are voting the Democratic ticket because as much as people wants change there are more that want things left just the way the are. Donald Trump saying he wants to put America back to work is his death nail. Americans don't want to be back to work when they don't have too. And the groups that elected Obama will be the same groups that elect Hilary, but I think they really want Sanders, he's giving away more
