Of course he knew. What I'm getting at is why even mention anything about the motive, if he is going to say the motive isn't clear. The motive is clear to most of us that have any intelligence, but I get why he would want it to be investigated and allow the police to respond to that on their own. But what I'm getting at, is if you have no plans on commenting on the motive, whether you know what it is or not, why would you even bring the word up in the first place? He would have been better off just leaving it at "this is happening far too often."

I guess I am. I felt like the speech was one of the best he's had recently to be honest. Just don't know why he felt the need to bring up the whole "motive" issue since he really had nothing to say about it, even though he clearly knows what the motive is.

The Sterling family came out very strongly urging no more killings. I believe it was Sterling's wife or mother, emotionally calling for no more killings. Said she knows how the phone calls to the families of those officers go and wants no more of those calls to happen. She told people like the perp to stay out of Baton Rouge. She said this is our house and we don't want outsiders coming into Baton Rouge thinking they are going to help solve problems by killing more people. I am paraphrasing but that is the gist of her emotional plea.

 

Good on her for stepping up and doing the right thing. Tough situation to be in.

Just saw on the Wall Street Journal's site that this guy may have connection not to Black Lives Matter, but the sovereign citizen movement. I've had some interaction with those folks before. Anyone else reading about this?

Maybe not saluting him perse, but I've seen plenty of folks liking videos posted by other people that are saying this violence is the only thing police understand and the only way to stop it is to fight back. There are A LOT of people that are supportive of this mindset, or at least they want to appear to be online.

The sources for their graphs were the Officer Down Memorial Page and the FBI. I'm not sure what other sources they should cite. Like I said I'm sure this year is going to go against the trend but the statistics show that crime against police officers had been going in the right direction. Hopefully we can get it going back in that direction.
