Not like this. I left the Republican Party when Rand Paul beat out Trey Grayson in that primary. By that point I had already started the lean.

 

I have a sort of natural conservatism that springs from a belief in institutions and a sort of Catholic traditionalism. The anti-establishment strains of the party make me pretty uneasy.

 

I've never felt particularly at home in either party.

I heard a lot of what Trump will do as President and as has been pointed out, very little about how. What he said he would do, like be the Law and Order President and end this violence against the police--really fast, and end the Isis threat--fast etc., makes me wonder how he will accomplish it. Short of declaring martial law, I don't see how he's going to have a big impact on Law and Order within a short amount of time.

 

Will he rule by fiat? Seriously, what does Trump think he can do from the Oval Office? If this was not America where the executive branch has limited powers and is held in check by two other branches of government, I would think Trump was going to rule like a dictator, a benevolent one, of course. I am assuming this is not what he meant because he couldn't possibly mean that, but is there anything in what he actually said that demonstrates he does not mean that? He told us to believe he was going to do what he said on many occasions, but I just can't believe he would do that.

 

BTW, I am not being facetious here. Did his speech not come across like I said?

I liked his speech and his daughters. I guess its all in what you hear or want to hear and who you are wanting to hear it from.

It is so interesting watching the different news/media stations. All predictable responses. Several on FOX calling Trump's speech the greatest political speech they have ever heard. The Dem people on CNN, especially the minorities, calling the speech the most divisive speech they ever heard. It makes me wonder ... is there anything a candidate could do in a speech like that which would cause the media people who are paid to be R's and D's to say it was bad? I know these people get paid to speak for the R side and the D side so maybe they are obligated no matter what the candidate says.

I thought the speech was fine, the kids are about as good as a father could ask for any parent would be proud.

 

These speeches are always about promises and how many get accomplished during a presidency.

I picked it up live at the HRC indictment segment and watched from there.

 

Solid is how I would describe it. More 'presidential' - as it needed it be.

 

I get the personal annotations that turn some people off. Some catch me as self centered a bit - "...and believe me, I will." But that is a real New Yorker.

I liked for the most part what he said. He spoke alot of truth that needs to be done in America. Now the naysayers will chide him for not speaking to the certain points on how he will do what he says, but this was an acceptance speech.

 

Like what @TexasRanger basically said, you will hear what you want to hear. Last night I heard music while others heard something different based on the responses in this thread.

Very true and I'm sure Hillary's next week will be no different. Trump's been running for over a year now and we've yet to hear the "how". That isn't worrisome to folks?

 

 

Last night at one point while talking about the violence against LEOs, he started a sentence with "On January 20th next year", and I actually thought to myself, he's going to tell us something he's going to do, only to be let down when he finished with something along the lines of "the violence will end and it'll end quickly".
