Pokémon Go players have flocked to the museum in Washington, D.C. honoring Jews killed by the Nazis in World War II, irking administrators, The Washington Post reported Tuesday. "Playing the game is not appropriate in the museum, which is a memorial to the victims of Nazism," a spokesman for the museum, Andrew Hollinger, said. "We are trying to find out if we can get the museum excluded from the game." The museum currently hosts three “PokeStops” where players can accumulate free items using their smartphones, according to The Post. One image making the rounds online even shows a poison gas Pokémon, called a Koffing, floating inside of the museum — though the paper reported the pic could be a hoax. Pokémon critters appear in the “augmented reality” game seemingly at random, meaning there was no ill-intent if the gaseous Pokémon did indeed turn up at the museum. Since launching last week, Pokémon Go has become a phenomenon. Players have flooded Central Park and other parts of the city searching for Pokémon and socializing. The MTA even tweeted a message advising Pokémon players to not chase the creatures onto subway tracks. On Tuesday the New York State DMV reminded gamers it is illegal to play while driving. “What is meant to be a fun game can have tragic real-world consequences if you’re playing it while driving or crossing the street. Simply put, catching virtual creatures to get to the next level is not worth risking your life or the lives of others,” said DMV Executive Deputy Commissioner Terri Egan. The game has also prompted concern among law enforcement around the world. In Washington state, police asked players to stop hunting Pokémon in the back of their headquarters. And police in Missouri arrested four teens who were allegedly robbing Pokémon players who made for easy targets.
